What’s in Store 

We are on the lookout for a detail-oriented and highly organized Payroll Accountant to join our team. This role is responsible for processing and managing payroll functions for employees and independent contractors, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, proficiency in payroll processing, experience with California payroll and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Prepare supporting schedules and process biweekly employee payroll for inspectors and auditors
  • Prepare supporting schedules and process weekly and biweekly independent contractor payrolls
  • Process and track pay adjustments for both employee and contractor payrolls
  • Process expense reimbursement reports for employee payroll
  • Calculate and process employee commissions and referral bonuses
  • Generate Inspector Pay Overrides reports for employee payroll
  • Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees and independent contractors
  • Ensure that contractor payroll accounts are properly funded
  • Record all necessary journal entries related to payroll transactions
  • Maintain accurate contractor data for 1099 reporting and ensure compliance with tax regulations
  • Assist with year-end audit requests by providing necessary payroll documentation and reports

  • Perform other payroll and accounting duties as assigned 

This role is a full-time, home-based position. 

Your Expertise, Skills, and Abilities

  • Degree in Accounting or a related field and/or a combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, with a focus on payroll
  • Experience with California payroll is highly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive payroll information
