Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for sales management, focusing on facilitation of the sales process, providing technical support and basic service support for accounts within a designated country, territory or industry.

Territory: Specify Territory to include Pharmaceutical Accounts, Biotech companies, Academics and CRO’s.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Relationship management/customer liaison
• Ongoing management and support of customer accounts that ensure a continued consumables stream from that account
• Solutions development and implementation
• Sales prospecting, promotion of MSD products, arranging for demonstrations
• Facilitation of new account set up, with and through the U.S. management and service teams
• Supports all capital, reagents and services provided by MSD, by acting as a liaison with the European services and applications teams
• Specific duties may vary depending upon department/territory requirements

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• B.S. (Undergraduate) degree or higher, from an accredited university, in a life science discipline
• Five or more years sales management experience within a geographic area, focusing on multi-customers or industries. Industrial and/or academic sales, preferred
• Industrial and/or academic sales experience in a particular geographic area focusing on customer/industry
• Proven sales record with CapEx or major consumables sales experience
• Strong, industry-related contacts within the designated territory
• Fluency in English and the commonly used/native language of assigned territory is required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge and experience working in the field of high technology capital instruments is a must
• A solid understanding of the Pharma/Biotech industry and the related academic and research institutions
• Extensive knowledge in protein chemistry, protein discovery, drug discovery processes
• Strong technical background with knowledge of HTS, Molecular Biology and competitive technology systems
• Demonstrated ability to expand industrial business within a particular geographic area
• Strong and motivated field sales orientation
• Influencing capabilities; high degree of negotiation capabilities
• A demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction and relationship management
• Competitive to win, resilient to challenges, maintaining a positive can do attitude to achieve success
• Energetic, results-driven with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
• Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of account data
o Effectively communicate performance goals and expectations
o Demonstrated success in bring customer decisions to closure
• Demonstrated ethics, integrity, loyalty and commitment
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a results-driven, independent environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Standing, walking and carrying up to 20 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Remote/home office environment
• Up to 100% travel within assigned geographic region
• Up to 30% travel required overnight
