The 2025 Insurance Services Division internship program is designed to provide participants with experience and exposure to a wide variety of UPMC Health Plan operations. During the internship period, interns will be involved in various projects, meetings, and initiatives. The level of independent work is contingent upon business unit needs and intern capabilities and interest.
The Summer Internship will be Monday through Friday daylight hours with a set hourly rate of $20/hr. This will be a 3 month internship starting May 28th, 2025.
The UPMC Insurance Services Division is looking for interns in the following areas:
Department of Healthcare Economics:
Hybrid and remote positions available for undergraduate and graduate students with a business or analytics focus.
Advanced Excel skills are required; familiarity with SQL, SAS, Tableau, or Power BI are preferred.
Strong communication and presentation skills are necessary for this position.
Preferred majors are: Mathematics, statistics, health policy, finance, economics, actuarial science, or STEM-related pursuits.
Quality Improvement:
This is a mostly remote position for undergraduate students, with occasional presence in Pittsburgh required for professional development opportunities.
Applicants should have an interest in change management, organizational performance, quality improvement, analytics, and research.
Data manipulation skills in Excel, comfort delivering presentations, and a general understanding of project management fundamentals are helpful.
Preferred majors are: Healthcare, analytics, public health, population health, public policy, or related fields.
Commercial Products:
Hybrid positions for undergraduate applicants.
Applicants should demonstrate an interest in designing and maintaining insurance products that can be sold to both individuals and employers.
No specific experience is required, but advanced Excel skills are preferred.
Preferred majors are: Business or a related field.
Marketing & Digital Communications:
Remote position for any higher education level.
Experience in web design, Power Apps, digital marketing tools and strategies, communication, and project management are required.
Any major is suitable for this position, with experience, interest, and team fit being.
