About the position:
The VP will play a key leadership role overseeing the Philanthropy and Partnerships team, which is comprised of Institutional Giving (Corporate and Foundation), Individual Giving (Major and Leadership Gifts and Planned Giving), and Donor Stewardship, and work together with the DSVP, CDO, Development’s senior leaders in Development Operations and Direct Response, executive-level staff and other senior and peer leaders. They will manage at least 4 Development staff, including senior leaders who manage Planned Giving , Cause Marketing, Indirect/Third-Party Donations, Prospect Research, and development services functions, including portfolio management and business insights. This will mean effectively co-leading an overarching strategy for a large, best-in-class team of Development professionals with an aim toward enhancing the systems and processes that support the work of frontline fundraisers.
The position is critical to the future growth and ambitious fundraising plans of the Development team. It offers an opportunity to scale donor audiences and will rely on both a strategic mindset and frontline fundraising experience. Americares will begin a campaign planning study this spring with an aim to growing its budget over the coming five years.
Key Outcomes:
In the first 90 days , the VP will:
- Learn and live the Americares values.
- Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings .
- Build relationships and begin to effectively manage direct reports.
- Understand Americares strategic goals.
- Begin to understand the goals and the operating plans of leadership and major giving, corporate and foundation giving, and planned giving teams. Begin to understand Americares campaign and growth goals.
- Build rapport with executive and development leadership and develop ways of working and role sort with DSVP.
- Read materials and absorb Americares mission and vision.
In the first 6 months, the VP will:
- Support the development of operating plans for each unit of the P&P team.
- Partner to implement the proposed plan for an Americares fundraising campaign.
- Provide oversight for the structure and the function of a development services team, including portfolio optimization, prospect research, donor list management, indirect and cause marketing, while considering the synergies across the individual, corporate, and foundations units and the ways that this position can enhance a prospect pool and provide higher level strategy to front line fundraisers.
- Provide maximum and impactful support to the Planned Giving team.
In the first year, the VP will:
- Effectively manage all direct reports to achieve fundraising revenue targets and optimize fundraising goals and plans.
- Partner seamlessly with the DSVP to manage and oversee the team, providing a leadership voice and elevating the team’s work.
- Exhibit a level of trust and rapport across the Leadership Team, Development Leadership and other senior level staff across the Americares global work community that enables the position to navigate complex funding challenges across internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure team revenue goals are achieved.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively model and contribute to Americares values, work culture and mission.
- Co-manage, serve as strategic leader, and inspire growth across the Philanthropy and Partnership team, which includes Leadership gifts (portfolios of $100K+), Major gifts ($10K+), Planned Giving , Corporate, and Foundations Gifts, Third-party Giving and Cause Marketing, Prospect Research and Donor Services, and Donor Stewardship .
- Provide specific oversight of Planned Giving, Cause Marketing, Indirect/Third-Party Giving, Prospect Research, and donor services team.
- Serve as a key department leader and strategic thought partner to the CDO and DSVP, providing advice and counsel about the range of the department’s activities.
- Play an important role in strategic and operational planning, goal setting, staff training and development, and other priorities as outlined by the DSVP.
- Ensure that the teams are meeting Americares strategic goals, including revenue targets and appropriate donor engagement metrics.
- Manage senior leaders for Pla nn ed Giving, Corporate Giving and Individual Giving, including communicating job expectations and fundraising goals; planning, monitoring, and appraising job performance; coaching employees; and developing and enforcing systems, policies, and productivity standards.
- Play a leading role in supporting a multi-year campaign, the planning of which is beginning in 2025.
- Deepen donor experience: In partnership with senior leaders, the Development Operations, ste wardship and fundraising teams, strengthen quality donor services functions—i.e., acknowledgement processes, list management, stewardship templates, and other tools—for prospects, donors, Leadership Councils and Board of Directors.
- Oversee the development and definition of donor experience communication standards, including contact by phone, mail, and relevant technology channels. Develop policies, procedures, and metrics to formalize and measure donor experience.
- Provide guidance to build a stronger portfolio of t ransformati onal gifts by supervising the prospect research team, ensuring that research is accelerated, shared, and strategically integrated into fundraising plans. Develop standardized systems to streamline processes across the team.
- Play a leading role in overseeing the Planned Giving program. Oversee the integration of the Planned Giving strategy into the overarching d epartment direction in line with organizational strategy.
- Manage the Planned Giving budget and integration of the Planned Giving expenses/budget into the P&P team budget.
- Work with Director of Planned Giving and Senior Director of Individual Giving to assist fundraising officers with identification, strategy and integration into donor plans of Planned Giving asks for Board of Directors, Leadership Council, Leadership Gift and Major Gift donors.
- Promote Asset Giving: Work with Director of Planned Giving and Senior Directors to identify strategy and integrate asset giving promotion (other ways to give) for Board of Directors, Leadership Council, Leadership Gift and Major Gift donors -- i.e., Securities, Real Estate, Crypto, Donor Advised Funds, IRA and other accounts.
- Work with senior directors to optimize major donor and institutional giving portfolios. Develop systems and processes to ensure best-in-class practices and maximize fundraising opportunities.
- Work with senior director to strengthen and elevate cause marketing and indirect/third-party giving, integrating both functions across marketing and communications teams and building maximally effective programs.
- Work closely with the CDO and DSVP to motivate, support, and appropriately leverage the contacts and involvement of executive leaders at Americares.
- Align activities of all teams to maximize both long-term revenue and donor engagement, ensuring consistent practices are in place between Direct Response, Major, and Planned Gifts to engage donors.
- Engage in and contribute to team spaces with openness, global competencies, and a growth mindset

Degrees and/or experience required for the role:
- 10+ years of progressively increasing responsibility for fundraising, including
- At least 5 years at the senior management level
- At least 5 years as a people manager of senior staff (director level equivalent and above) with team sizes of 5 or more.
These competencies are required for the role:
- Broad knowledge of and expertise in leading high-touch global fund raising programs.
- Prior experience with large international nonprofits, humanitarian aid, or development organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee the work of experienced senior staff including major, planned, corporate, and foundation gifts.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff to elicit their best work.
- Demonstrated experience with designing strategic and operational plans and managing development budgets.
- Demonstrated experience in external relationship management with extensive knowledge of Board and donor cultivation and stewardship.
- Exceptional communication competency in all forms - verbal, written, etc , particularly with a diverse global work community.
- Prior experience as a frontline fundraiser.
US work authorization and an ability to travel up to 25% of the time is required for this role.
These competencies would be great to have, but are not required :
- Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.
