The Fintech Risk team at Toast is in charge of leading risk-informed growth for the rapidly expanding Toast Fintech line of business. Whether it is enhancing our strategy and processes, sharpening our policies or identifying new products for our merchants, the risk team is an integral part of charting the path for the business.

The Manager, Credit Risk, will serve as a leader for our Credit Risk function, mentoring and managing a growing and hungry team of analysts who conduct portfolio and acquisition risk analysis.  We are looking for a professional that is enthusiastic about building risk-right products and excited to evangelize what it means to work in Credit Risk at Toast.  The Manager, Credit Risk, will work with a broad cross-functional team to lead the development and execution of credit risk strategies for Toast's lending portfolio. We need a person who is enthusiastic to learn and skilled at analyzing data for this critical position. They will enhance our understanding of risks and develop easy-to-understand reports and dashboards, which will lead to making better decisions for business growth and discovering new opportunities for success in Toast's lending sector.

About this roll* (Responsibilities)

  • Acquisition and Portfolio Risk Strategy: Define, implement, and continuously improve the credit risk management strategy across the lending life cycle, ensuring alignment with company appetite
  • Emerging Risk Identification and Mitigation: Proactively identify emerging risks and propose data-driven mitigation solutions to minimize potential losses and optimize returns
  • Risk Reporting and Monitoring: Develop and maintain a comprehensive and timely reporting framework to provide risk visibility to management, ensuring that risk and return are optimized and in line with company goals
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster deep partnerships with Product Management, Operations, Engineering, Data Science, Accounting, and Strategic Finance teams, advancing alignment and facilitating data-driven decision-making
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and coach a team of high-performing credit risk analysts, fostering their professional growth and development
  • Policy Management: Maintain and update credit risk policy documents and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • 6+ years of experience in consumer or small business lending in a quantitative credit risk strategy role, preferably in Fintech
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing a team
  • Quantitative degree (Mathematics/Statistics/Economics/Operations Research) preferred, Masters Degree or MBA a plus
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python, with experience in data visualization tools such as Hex/ Tableau/Looker/Sigma
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to successfully convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • An inquisitive nature, with an affinity for exploring variances, recognizing root causes, and spearheading data-driven decision-making
  • Proven ability to collaborate with various teams, promote teamwork, and build consensus.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.

$107,000$171,000 USD
