Job description

Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

We are looking for a Credit Risk Manager with deep experience managing counterparty risk across financial institutions to support our growing team. You will assess the credit and financial strength of counterparties by performing fundamental credit analysis of both quantitative and qualitative credit factors. A key component of this role is approving trading activity and risk mitigants to protect against default and minimize potential losses. The right candidate will enjoy operating in a dynamic digital asset market environment and managing complex credit risks across an institutional client base. This role will report to a Director, Credit Risk, and may be based remotely in Ireland.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Approve counterparty credit reviews and internal credit ratings analysis conducted by analysts.
  • Assessment of industry fundamentals, financial strengths, and qualitative factors supporting counterparties' creditworthiness
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and answer questions relating to analysis performed; escalate issues to senior management
  • Lead efforts to produce ongoing surveillance and prepare portfolio observations for senior management
  • Monitor portfolio risks and oversee periodic and ad hoc portfolio reviews.
  • Recommend and implement policies and processes, as appropriate for emerging businesses and risks.
  • Collaborate with business partners (product, coverage, operations, legal, etc.) to resolve complex client and product challenges.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in credit risk management at a global financial institution.
  • Meaningful experience underwriting and managing risk to banks, exchanges, payment processors, market makers, and broker dealers.
  • Strong quantitative skills and understanding of capital markets products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with commercial business insight. Able to interact, influence and build relationships at all levels of seniority and across all functions within an organization.
  • Able to balance strategic focus with tactical implementation and efficient execution.
  • Enjoys analyzing, evaluating and forming independent judgments, and challenging the status quo for better outcomes.
