Your Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Maintenance and Facilities Manager to develop and then oversee preventative maintenance and facilities maintenance programs related to our farming operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing farm maintenance  programs, building a maintenance team, and providing training to staff to maintain high standards of work quality and operational efficiency. 

What You'll Do:

  • Designs and implements maintenance preventative and facilities maintenance programs and strategies.
  • Recruits, develops, and coaches maintenance team members.
  • Creates and implements processes for maintenance work-orders, equipment breakdowns, and emergency maintenance calls.
  • Develops and ensures adherence to routine and on-call schedules for maintenance team members.
  • Works with the farm managers to schedule and coordinate routine maintenance activities.
  • Prepares regular preventative and facilities maintenance reports for appropriate stakeholders.
  • Performs site checks to monitor quality of work performed by maintenance team.
  • Addresses any matters arising from stakeholders such as environmental and local community issues.
  • Provides key insight to the off-site Project Manager during construction and design to address long term manufacturing needs/requirements.
  • Identifies and manages critical spare parts inventory to balance cost control with operational reliability.
  • Has operational responsibility/accountability for site maintenance activities including the repair, maintenance and installation of equipment, the maintenance of buildings, grounds, utility systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and sanitation practices. 
  • Manages the training, development and succession planning for direct reports.
  • Drive implementation of maintenance and facilities projects within budgets and timelines.  
  • Assists team members with completion of maintenance tasks and upkeep of facilities as needed. 

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree or trade certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years leading and directing maintenance activities required. Preferably in the agricultural or food production sectors.
  • Previous Electrical and/or Building Project Management experience preferred.
  • Located within commutable distance to all barn locations in Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky. Expected to be in barn locations 4-5 days a week.
  • Ability to travel 20-25% for company events, team meetings, and business needs.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary to support the farms.
  • Must have a state approved and valid driver’s license in good standing 
  • Comfortable standing or sitting for long periods of time  
  • Comfortable outdoors and in high/low temperatures 
  • Comfortable working in dusty environments 
  • Comfortable pushing, pulling, bending, stretching, twisting, or reaching out. 
  • Comfortable operating heavy equipment or machinery
  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces
  • Manual dexterity and hand and eye coordination  
  • Able to work on unlevel or uneven surfaces 
  • Good knowledge of machine safety and safety regulations (e.g. OSHA)
  • Strong team building and coaching skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, analytical skills, negotiation skills, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and understand technical specifications and terminology.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • The ability to internalize a variety of information, facts, and forecast a business impact.

At Vital Farms, compensation decisions are dependent upon a variety of factors, which may include, but are not limited to, skill level, experience, education, training, market demands, and business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current starting annual base salary for this position is $110,000 - $125,000. Please keep in mind that hiring at the maximum end of the range would not be typical in order to allow for potential continued future salary growth.
