Job Description Summary
Akoya is seeking a Senior Business Analyst, primarily working remotely, with occasional travel to our offices in Marlborough, MA. The senior business analyst will leverage previous experience building clinical software platforms that span sample and data management from accessioning through the clinical laboratory to test reporting. The clinical aspects of the platform include complex image processing and algorithmic assessments throughout the process. This person will become a subject matter expert in the clinical laboratory workflows and the required software systems that are integrated to support those workflows, and be a trusted advisor to the scientific, business, and technology teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Accountable for effective collection of requirements using a variety of tools such as interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, direct observation of lab personnel, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis.
- Translate complex or ambiguous business problem statements into clear requirements.
- Critically evaluate information to identify process gaps and procedural conflicts, and work with lab staff to resolve gaps and conflicts using a combination of people, process, and technology.
- Review, analyze, and create detailed documentation of business systems and user needs, including workflow, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify business applications.
- Improves upon existing approaches by seeking innovative opportunities to creatively transform current industry best practices into fresh alternative solutions.
- Maintains clear project focus and works effectively with project managers, software quality engineers, management team, internal stakeholders, regulatory, customers and vendors to attain project goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with vendors and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
- Work with software engineers to ensure that developed software meets stated requirements, work with software testing team members to ensure testing is thorough and complete, and create documentation that aligns with industry and company procedures and is suitable for use in a regulated environment
- Collaborates with the laboratory and with software testing team members performing computer systems verification to define, develop and implement quality assurance test practices and procedures for project implementation and ongoing support.
- Leads software platform User Acceptance Testing and ensures test cases and supporting documentation are complete.
- Ensures all project changes follow the company’s change control process.
- Ensures continuing operational quality by documenting fixes and enhancements, coordinating remediation with vendor, and adherence to test and release processes.

Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, healthcare administration, or a related field and or the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training.
- Minimum 10 years experience as business analyst or combination business analyst and project manager.
- Minimum 7 years in life sciences industry implementing and/or supporting validated systems for CAP/CLIA and GxP compliance, including multiple LIMS implementations.
- Excellent business process analysis skills to assess user requirements against system capabilities to create design documentation for business communication and technical development.
- Experience with clinical software platforms that include immunohistochemical or immunofluorescent imaging and diagnostic image analysis algorithms preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical interpretation skills required to interpret customer business needs and pain points, to define and translate into a software solution to meet needs.
- Self-starter with ability to successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Experience working on teams that have a mix of full-time employees and utilization of third part development partners.
- Ability to work well in a team as well as independently to accomplish tasks without supervision.
The hiring range for this position is $115,000 - $147,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus (or a sales incentive plan) and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
