Head of Sales Commodity Trading and Logistics, Liquid Chemicals

Location: Switzerland, Hybrid work, must be based in Switzerland

Astrantia Talent is proud to be the exclusive recruitment partner to a well-established, growth-oriented petrochemical company to assist in their search for a Head of Sales Commodity Trading and Logistics, Liquid Chemicals.

With storage capabilities located in five different countries across Europe, they serve their customers in more than twenty countries across Europe and the Americas.

Job Purpose:

The job purpose of the Head of Sales Commodity Trading and Logistics, Liquid Chemicals is to lead and strategize the sales and logistics efforts, ensuring revenue growth, market expansion, and client satisfaction. This includes developing and executing sales/logistics strategies, nurturing relationships with key partners, managing the team, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. You will play a pivotal role in driving the company's success by identifying market opportunities, capitalizing on industry trends, and fostering long term partnerships within the chemical sector.

The position will require a 25% travel time.

Job Specific Accountabilities:

Lead the sales and logistics team to develop market expansion (4 sales managers, 1 logistics coordinator, 1 middle office operator).

Sales and strategy

  • Develop and implement sales and logistics strategies
  • Identify new trading business opportunities
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure alignment of sales efforts with product development and marketing strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive and ambitious business plan
  • Plays a crucial role in coordinating the supply chain logistics to ensure efficient and timely deliveries.
  • Optimize logistics costs
  • Maximizes netback profit from sales activities.
  • Monitors sales performance with respect to KPI.
  • Ensure continuous inventory analysis & awareness of stock position to avoid overstock/ stock out situation.
  • Leverages on latest market trends and updates to improve sales strategies.

Market intelligence

  • Follow market intelligence, occurrence and price trends in the industry.
  • Supports Global Commercial Directors in their HQ in enacting global strategy at regional level.
  • Communicates any regional shifts (e.g. supply-demand dynamics, arbitrage, etc.) to proactively strengthen global strategy.

Account Management

  • Cultivate strong relationships with key business partners.
  • Develop trust relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Represents the company at trade shows, conferences and events
  • Ensures compliance with all legal and contractual obligations including issuing
  • contracts.

The role, responsibilities and accountabilities of the Head of Sales and Logistics will include but are not limited to:

Implement and execute strategy according to the company's requirements for Europe:

  • Prepare annual Business Plan
  • Place volumes allocated to Europe
  • Lock-in competitive price in respect with netback target communicated
  • Investigate trading opportunities
  • Ensure that the Company is represented at Petrochemicals tradeshows
  • Build Key Performance Indicators
  • Monitor supply planning, sales forecasts and sales performances
  • Coordinate suitable logistics flows of material
  • Adjust storage capacities to business developments
  • Set up new logistics routes for any new business development
  • Negotiate contracts with logistics partners
  • Rationalize logistics flows and costs
  • Provide quick and efficient solutions to balance supply chain disruptions
  • Maintain excellent business relationship with all partners
  • Inspect warehouse facilities
  • Set up insurance claim procedures

Support to the Group

  • Oversees the full chain of product responsibilities (from inventory to cash collection)
  • Supports Global Commercial Directors in enacting global strategy at regional level.
  • Communicates any regional shifts (e.g. supply-demand dynamics, arbitrage, etc.) to proactively strengthen global strategy.
  • Leverages on latest market trends and updates to improve sales strategies.
  • Collaborates and monitors sales progress
  • Liaise with logistics and Value Chain Planning
  • Provide overview to Board of Directors and Management on sales and logistics performances
  • Collaborate with the insurance department for any claim or Marine Cargo
  • Collaborate to any request from the Group
  • Implement compliance
  • Apply the Companys Internal Control System
  • Back up sales term agreements with signed contracts
  • Back up Swap agreements wtih signed contracts
  • Apply local regulations in terms of: import/export licenses, drug precursors licenses End User Declarations (GBL, AAN, BDO), etc
  • REACH: Ensure that the MSDS of all Sipchems products are translated as per REACH regulations in all languages required by customers.
  • Collaborate in all improvements deemed necessary for business, for example ISO certification, etc...

Team Management

  • Coaching the team. Be the GO TO person.
  • Provide senior advices
  • Develop internal potentials
  • Elevate team members appropriately (Training towards promotion)

Set up back up for the department

  • Manage holidays planning
  • Organize year-end reviews
  • Approve travels and travel expenses
  • Develop team cohesion and multicultural awareness

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Accounting, Economics, Business
  • Management or in a relevant field.
  • Chemist degree is a plus
  • Proficiency in English Language
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within the petrochemical industry.
  • Deep understanding of petrochemical products, applications and industry
  • Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills
  • Proven track record of success in driving sales growth
  • Trading background
  • Results oriented
  • Fluent in English, other languages can be an advantage
