What’s the job?

At Torrens University, we are committed to impactful research addressing critical global health challenges. The Centre for Healthy Futures (CHEF) is at the forefront of innovation in cardiovascular and/or clinical sciences, driving solutions to enhance health outcomes. As part of our strategic road map CHEF has a focus on biomedical sciences.

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow with an ability to contribute to core biomedical sciences with a focus on cardiovascular, haematology and clinical sciences. Our research has a focus on knowledge discovery and applied researchIdeally the candidate will have expertise in bioinformatics, genomics plus data science or statistics to support the group. This role emphasizes collaboration, research excellence, and the ability to support team-based projects while leading independent research initiatives. Expertise in bioinformatics with a focus on mechanisms of disease will be highly regarded.

Day-to-day accountabilities:

As a Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Healthy Futures, you will:

  • Accelerate Research Outputs: Both lead and collaborate to contribute to high-impact publications in cardiovascular and/or clinical sciences, with a focus on Q1 Journal outputs. 

  • Provide Data Expertise: Leverage your detailed knowledge of bioinformatics, omics analysis, data science, or statistics to support various research projects.  

  • Incorporate Genomics and Mechanisms of Disease: Apply your understanding of genomics and disease mechanisms to advance CHEF’s research priorities in cardiovascular and/or clinical sciences. 

  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with CHEF Research Director and an Associate Professor, and interdisciplinary teams to achieve shared research goals. 

  • Lead Research Innovation: Drive your own research initiatives in cardiovascular or haematology or clinical systems while contributing to team-based projects. 

  • Develop Strategies for Success: Create and implement strategies for grant applications, academic and industry collaborations, and HDR (Higher Degree by Research) education. 

  • Support HDR Development: Mentor and supervise HDR students, contributing to their academic and professional growth. 

  • Ensure Precision: Deliver accurate and high-quality outputs, showcasing meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of research and administration. 

  • Administrative Leadership: Plan and support activities related to publications, grants, and partnerships to align with CHEF’s strategic goals.

This is a full time role and can be located across Australia as it is a remote position.

Who you are

To excel in this role, you will have: 

  • A PhD in cardiovascular sciences, physiological systems, clinical sciences, or a related field. 

  • Detailed knowledge and proven expertise in bioinformatics, data science, or statistics, with the ability to apply these skills effectively in research contexts. 

  • Expertise in genomics and mechanisms of disease, and their application in cardiovascular and/or clinical sciences research. 

  • A strong track record of Q1 publications in FOR 32 disciplines (cardiovascular and/or clinical sciences). Ability to produce high level scientific publications and have a passion for writing academic manuscripts.  

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in team-based research projects and independently deliver agreed results. 

  • Ability to present bioinformatic and statistical results in a publication format that facilitates research outputs. 

  • Oversee data curation and storage for CHEF as per university polices.   

  • Apply for competitive grant funding and to develop strategic partnerships with industry and academic collaborators. 

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in research outputs and administrative contributions. 

  • Demonstrated capability to supervise and mentor HDR students. 

  • Exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
