Title: Technical Writer                                               Reports to: Director of Monitoring and Evaluation

Status: Full-time Salaried, Exempt                           Location: Seattle, WA or Remote Home Office

Role Summary: 

The Technical Writer, reporting to the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, will be a key member of the Programs department, advancing The Max Foundation’s mission to accelerate health equity. In this role, the Technical Writer will lead or contribute to the development of a wide array of technical documents, including publications, grant proposals, reports, and abstracts that support the organization’s global health initiatives. This position requires close collaboration across departments to synthesize complex medical, scientific, and programmatic information into clear and compelling formats for diverse audiences, including scientific and medical professionals, global health stakeholders, and funders.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead or contribute to the drafting, editing, and finalization of technical documents, including grant proposals, program reports, abstracts, presentations, case studies, and peer-reviewed manuscripts to effectively communicate program implementation, outcomes, and impact.
  • Ensure all written materials are clear, compelling, and tailored to the needs of diverse audiences, including scientific and medical professionals, global health stakeholders, and funders.
  • Work closely with the Programs and Communications/Development departments to integrate data and evidence into proposals, reports and publications.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and case studies from The Max Foundation’s programs to support internal learning and external engagement.
  • Review and refine technical documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with scientific standards and organizational values.
  • Maintain high editorial standards, adhering to style guides and formatting requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a glossary of key terms and concepts used in The Max Foundation’s programs.
  • Assist in crafting visually compelling, data-driven reports and dashboards for monitoring and evaluation.
  • Support the preparation of materials for donor meetings, conferences, and external engagements, ensuring high-quality content that effectively communicates program goals and achievements. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, global health, life sciences, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in technical writing, particularly in global health, healthcare, or the nonprofit sector.
  • Proven ability to create clear, concise, and impactful content tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of global health concepts, particularly in access to medicine and health systems strengthening.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills, with expertise in editing and proofreading.
  • Experience developing grant proposals, program reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques to support reporting and presentations.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation frameworks and their application in global health programs.
  • Experience with publication processes, including abstract submissions and manuscript preparation for scientific journals.
  • Competence with software applications (Microsoft Suite, database management, project management)
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; Verbal and written fluency in French, Spanish or another language a plus

CompensationTypical US hiring range for this role is $98,843 to $118,612. Offers will factor in relevant candidate qualifications, cost of labor, pay equity, and geographic location. No relocation provided; remote location possible.
