Role Summary
As a Data Science Intern, you will have a strong quantitative background, experience with Python, and an entrepreneurial, inventive, experiment-driven mindset. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in geospatial analysis and relevant sector expertise (energy, credit assessments, etc.).
The Data Science Intern will report to our Data Scientist in GMT+2 time zone; the candidate will need to be able to be online & able to collaborate in this time zone.
Commitment: Part-time, 20-30 hours per week, 12-week term: June 9, 2025 - August 29, 2025
Primary ResponsibilitiesSupport the data team in designing, training, testing, and implementing algorithmic models core to Nithio’s products and services. Contribute to project and product success: Collaborate across the team to provide successful data science solutions for Nithio’s clients, including understanding business requirements and executing project deliverables.Make data science accessible: Document new processes/tasks and support other team members in understanding and adopting resulting workflows and outputs. Measure, learn, repeat: Track KPIs for machine learning models and products and identify approaches to improve performance, mitigate risks, and align on business goals. Effectively communicate complexity: Synthesize, visualize, and communicate results effectively to stakeholders through dashboards, plots, presentations, and reports.QualificationsCurrently enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s program in a related field. Experience with Python (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn, etc.) and SQL; additional experience with R is a plus. Experience or exposure to applied quantitative methods and/or programming; Training and experience with applied statistics and quantitative modeling (e.g., regression, survival analysis, segmentation, experimentation, and machine learning).Familiarity with version control and software engineering fundamentals.Outstanding communication and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex and technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Excitement about owning projects and thinking in creative waysDemonstrated interest or experience in Africa or emerging markets preferred.Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach.Attention to detail and ability to work independently and within a team.Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
