Join our team as a Social Media Senior Specialist and play a key role in implementing the JAX content strategy to inform and engage diverse target audiences across all social media channels. Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing team and JAX-wide to support and contribute to a pipeline of content that expands our social media audiences. This role is crucial within the content strategy group, continuously improving the quality, quantity, and performance of JAX content by monitoring and increasing engagement among target audiences to support our organizational objectives.
What You’ll Contribute
- Help establish and expand the social media strategy to increase JAX’s visibility and engagement among audiences, including strategies that inspire supporters, donors, and partners while reinforcing the research mission.
- Create, deliver, and manage high-quality, actionable content that is consistent with the JAX brand and messaging across all social media channels, amplifying the mission and differentiating JAX from other organizations in the nonprofit and biomedical research space.
- Execute on a robust editorial calendar and publishing cycles to ensure optimal promotion of all initiatives and strategic priorities while creating a highly engaged social media audience through a variety of tactics.
- Create compelling content for diverse audiences in a variety of formats (written, visual, video, graphics, etc.) to communicate the JAX mission and impact, often collaborating with the creative and news team.
- Develop and publish content across all social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Blue Sky, etc.), including takeovers, live events, etc.
- Obtain data and analytics to support development of insights and recommendations that inform the content strategy, enhance understanding of social media communities, and measure engagement.
- Support efforts to report from and cover scientific conferences, JAX events, and other activities as needed.
- Partner across the team and JAX-wide to curate, create, and publish content that promotes the research enterprise and its impact on human health, finding new and compelling ways to tell the JAX story.
- Maintain adherence to the JAX-wide style guide, including guidelines on tone, grammar, punctuation, and organizational standards across all social media.
- Create social media content publishing processes with a commitment to timeliness and accuracy.
- Partner across the communications and marketing team and JAX-wide to create and implement social media tactics that support goals including campaigns and calls-to-action that build community online.
- Leverage SEO tools to optimize content and track performance.
- Make recommendations for boosting content to optimize performance.
- Closely monitor social media platforms for a variety of proactive and responsive purposes, identifying opportunities and challenges with the senior manager, editorial, and the communications and marketing senior management team.
- Engage with supporters and followers to thank them and answer questions.
- Monitor and manage messages through JAX’s social inboxes and comments on all platforms.
- Drive quality audience growth and engagement year over year.
- Contribute to all reporting and analytics activities as they relate to social media and the content strategy.
- Potential additional responsibilities as the team seeks achievement of its ambitious goals.
What You’re Good At
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field.
- 3 – 5 years of relevant experience working in social media, journalism, or digital media, preferably in the nonprofit health or biomedical research space.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including superior writing and editing skills.
- Experience in audience segmentation and the ability to anticipate and target communications to a variety of audiences that include the general public, supporters, donors, and the biomedical research community.
- A proactive, client-service approach to working collaboratively.
- Experience in crisis communications, including monitoring the landscape and responding to community members.
- Social media expertise with deep knowledge of current industry best practices.
- Enthusiasm for building communities through written, visual, and video content.
- A keen awareness of current events, news, and trends that can be leveraged to engage target audiences.
- Experience in social media tactics that support and drive fundraising goals is strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful strategies that drive measurable results and impact.
- Excellent interpersonal and client relation skills.
- Ability to proactively work effectively with stakeholders with a focus on excellence.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and the ability to balance competing priorities are a must.
- Proven experience identifying or creating photography, videography, and visual design to motivate social media audiences.
- Familiarity with SEO writing and writing at different grade levels for different audiences as it pertains to health, science, and medical research literacy.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, Sprout Social, and other tools such as content management systems, analytics tools, etc.
- Ability to travel periodically (2-3 days per quarter at most).
The salary range is $56,538 - $94,658. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.
