Responsibilities:
Skyward Specialty is seeking to add top underwriting talent to our Mining division with a focus on expansion in the Western US, in precious metals, rare earth metals, and in renewables. This division has grown to approximately $125 million of premium covering all lines of coverage including WC, GL, Auto, IM, Property and Excess.

Responsibilities include:
- Gathers information from retail agents, wholesale brokers and Underwriting Assistants in order to determine the degree of risk by examining application forms, inspection reports, and historical loss information.
- Evaluates applicant factors by reviewing applicant financial standing, age, occupation, accident experience, and value and condition of property.
- Determines terms, conditions, and complex rating plans.
- Ability to offer coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer.
- Understand loss trends, loss triangles and rate making.
- Properly classifying and pricing risks as well as evaluating commercial business for risk acceptability and renewal retention.
- Develop and manage departmental operating budget. Take corrective action to guarantee that the process of achievement of objectives falls within designated budgets.
- Is responsible for the overall direction, training, development and evaluation of department staff; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Rate and quote multi-state accounts in custom built underwriting system
- Request and obtain renewal information as needed.
- Maintain solid broker relationships over the phone, email, and regular personal visits.

- Provides competitive feedback on rates, products, pricing and marketing strategies.
- Makes presentations to peers, producers, and leadership as necessary.
- Promote a culture of personal responsibility/accountability and open communications.
- Ensure fair and ethical policies and practices in all relationships and operations.
- Other duties as may be assigned as the business continues to develop.
Qualifications:
- Required experience specifically in Mining and/or Energy Industries.
- Five (5) years or more of commercial underwriting experience;
- Experience with Auto, General Liability, Excess Casualty, Property, Inland Marine and Workers Compensation lines of business.
- Certificates or Licenses as required by regulatory entities.
- Relevant professional designations or claims-specific certifications highly desirable.
Compensation & Benefits
The applicable base salary for this opportunity is $105,000 - $120,000. The base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. In addition to the base salary, this opportunity may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
