Payroll Tax Accountant – Job Description

As a member of the Accounting team, this position will be responsible for assisting the Senior Tax Accountant with Payroll tax filings and research as well as other compliance reporting

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Payroll department & external payroll provider to setup payroll tax accounts with state and local municipalities
  • Evaluate new work locations to determine tax compliance concerns
  • Review payroll tax and work location setups for accuracy
  • Monopolistic Worker’s Compensation insurance policy reporting
  • Resolve payroll tax calculation and reporting discrepancies
  • Process incoming tax notices and letters, research issues and recommend resolutions
  • Contact state and local government agencies to resolve outstanding issues
  • Assist with various state and local audits
  • Assist with month end financial statement tax reconciliations
  • Assist in controls and process documentation
  • Assist with other accounting and compliance duties as needed
  • Perform other job duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or 2+ years’ experience in a corporate tax team or CPA firm
  • Ability to apply general tax concepts
  • Ability to process large quantities of data
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Effective time management
  • Advanced Proficiency in Excel
  • Experience filing or reviewing any of the following types of tax returns:
    • State income tax withholding
    • Local income tax withholding
    • State unemployment insurance
    • Workers compensation
    • Other employee and employer payroll taxes

Preferences:

  • Knowledge of multi-state payroll taxation highly preferred
  • Knowledge of local jurisdiction payroll taxation highly preferred
  • UKG and UKG Payment Services experience highly preferred
  • UKG Business Intelligence experience preferred
  • Microsoft Dynamics F&O experience preferred
