About the role
Reporting to the VP Marketing EMEA, the mission is to lead marketing efforts and manage marketing personnel in the EMEA region for Helen of Troy’s assigned Division(s).
The Associate Marketing Director, plans, develops and implements unique and efficient marketing strategies & initiatives for the assigned categories to achieve the brand/category financial targets. He/she is responsible for category P&L and 3Y plan business planning. He/she leads the development of assigned NPDs in line with agreed 3YP roadmap and defines product positioning, go to market approach and launch plans.
He/she leads a team of specialist(s)/associate marketing manager(s), collaborates closely with Global Marketing teams to bring local market and consumer expertise and help these brands and products forge deeper connections and success in EMEA. The Associate Marketing Director also works in close connection with internal and external partners acting as a business proactive interface to drive product/brand awareness and consumer demand which covert into successful sales.
He/she leads all of the assigned Division’s 360° marketing activation programs, including ATL/BTL, digital marketing, social, consumer events, PR, retail display and collateral, trade shows, Direct-to-consumer business and supporting and applying market research and consumer insights for the brand. The role is also responsible for supporting the sales teams by providing key tools to help sales effectively convey brands and product, and meet sales targets, including for owned markets as well as for the broad distributor network.
What you’ll do in the role
Marketing Strategy & Profitability
- Lead EMEA 3-Year Strategic Plan, P&L and roadmaps
- Provide input into global marketing/product strategies and influence how they are formed, communicated and implemented
- Recommend a pricing strategy for the assigned categories and products.
- Lead the localization of existing global marketing strategies and brand frameworks to the EMEA region
Product Development
- Partner with Global Marketing, Global Product Development, Legal, Regulatory, Operations and Finance teams to support and in collaboration develop NPD programs and packaging projects.
- Develop/supervise high impact product innovations & launches/re-launches
- Develop NPV calculations to assess the profitability of new product introductions.
Market Intelligence & consumer insights
- In conjunction with local sales leadership, assist in divisional strategic planning by leading regional consumer research (with global marketing/product leads where appropriate), analyzing local competition and synthesizing information from multiple sources to identify possible threats and opportunities.
- Evaluate business performance and brand value proposition, monitor market trends and synthesize information from multiple sources to identify possible shifts in business needs and strategy.
- Recommend modifications to existing products and new product development to grow sales.
- Lead and facilitate the sharing of learning, the nurturing of insight into action and implementation of related tactics.
Leadership & Management
- Lead the marketing team, providing vision and guidance, including key people management roles: select, train, develop and manage the team performance, as well as succession plan
- Identify and manage financial budget and people resources needed to deliver the marketing plans, including agreeing and monitoring the marketing budget for EMEA Marketing.
- Work in close partnership with x-functional team leaders to ensure optimal product compliancy & inventory levels to deliver against regional targets.
Effective Marketing Programs and Tactics:
- Translate brands and Go-to-Market strategies into actionable programs (launch activities, earned media, digital, display, consumer events, influencers, and promotion) and drive continuous business & distribution expansion across markets & channels.
- Lead & present AOP to sales organization across all LOBs, matching RMO & local needs and requirements
- Participate in /lead business building plans with key customers, KOLs and influencers
- Monitor regional performance through Marketing KPIs, maximize ROI, drive spend recommendations and decisions
What will help you do the job well
Essential:
- University degree in marketing, business management or a related field required.
- 10 yrs + experience in international marketing and sales roles in Europe.
- Experience gained either through FMCG or similar field strongly preferred.
- Strong business acumen and financial awareness (P&L, NPV).
- Experience in analyzing and maximizing ROI and make spending recommendations and decisions.
- Experience in setting local/regional marketing objectives, strategies, and budgets and in driving the execution of local plans. Experience in leading Operational planning processes.
- Strong analytical and research skills to monitor, analyze, and evaluate market trends, shopper behaviors, and competitor activities to identify market opportunities, support category management and portfolio development.
- Proven success in supporting Innovation and successful Product Development to drive shopper and customer value whilst aligning with global brand strategy and local commercial objectives.
- Proven success in developing brand campaign, media plans and digital/social initiatives supporting BTL activity to deliver a 360 approach that meets local market objectives.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written), French a plus.
