Job Title:  Academic Success, AVP


Work Location: Remote


Reports to: Program Manager, AVP


Annual Salary: $46,000 - $76,000 (salary based on location and experience)

The Last Mile is a San Francisco, CA-based non-profit, the first prison program in the U.S. to provide in-prison software engineering training. Position Description:


The AVP Academic Success Representative serves as the support contact for the incarcerated students of The Last Mile’s Audio & Video Production Program. In this role, you will be supporting students asynchronously on our Academic Support HelpDesk platform, grading assignments, and assisting instructors in virtual instruction lessons in audio engineering and video post-production. 


Academic Support and grading duties are completed in between delivery of live instruction. Projects and assignments are submitted through Canvas, TLM’s Learning Management System. Instruction is delivered live via video call to our students in various correctional facilities around the country. Lesson plans are highly interactive and generally make use of screen sharing to demonstrate techniques in various audio and video editing software, deliver presentations, and facilitate learning games. 


Role Responsibilities:


  • Respond daily to students’ academic and logistical questions via our HelpDesk platform, prioritizing constructive and supportive language
  • Become intimately familiar with our Digital Audio Production, Video Editing, and Post-Production LMS courses
  • Grade student work in accordance with project rubrics and established grading norms
  • Join all assigned virtual sessions to provide support to the AVP instructor
  • Meet all deadlines and communicate clearly on all grading and support duties
  • Collaborate with AVP team to improve systems, processes, and educational products across the organization
  • Use and encourage rehumanizing language and approaches across all audiences
  • Maintain a positive and supportive attitude in all interactions


Requirements:


  • Graduate of TLM’s AVP Program
  • Strong knowledge of Pro Tools and DaVinci Resolve (Avid Certified User and/or DaVinci Certified User a plus)
  • Familiarity with TLM’s Learning Management System, Canvas
  • Familiarity with audio and video production equipment and technologies
  • Previous computer experience (use of Google Suite, video calls, and multimedia screen sharing a plus)
  • Previous experience fulfilling a support role in the classroom (as a Teacher’s Assistant or Aide) is preferable but not required
