Participates in cross-functional teams to define customer-specific requirements, analyze feasibility, and propose tailored solutions that meet customer needs. Conducts system analysis to resolve tradeoffs and drives integration of system engineering tools and processes across platforms to optimize performance. Manages resolution of system compatibility and performance issues, ensuring that each design meets the unique specifications of the customer. This role requires strong leadership skills to guide and mentor junior engineers, ensuring high standards of engineering excellence and collaboration.

What do you get to do in this position?

  • Responsible for the design of Medium Voltage switchgear in a DTO environment
  • Accountable for investigating and procuring all data required to develop complex, customer-specific designs
  • Prepares sketches and/or schematic diagrams based on unique customer requirements
  • Works independently, exercises latitude and judgment to develop designs with minimal supervision
  • Prepares accurate layout, detail, and assembly drawings tailored to individual orders
  • Perform mechanical analysis of mechanisms (tolerance, stress, deformation, kinematic) to ensure they meet specific customer needs
  • Become adept in Lean Agile practices and team processes, tailored for DTO projects
  • Lead and mentor in a diverse cross-functional team environment, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement on custom projects.
  • Act as a technical leader, providing guidance on best practices and innovative solutions for DTO projects

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of product development experience
  • Direct product design experience related to ANSI/IEEE Medium Voltage air and gas insulated Switchgear
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a technical environment, with the ability to inspire and guide team members
  • Fulfills technical assignments, with autonomy to propose/develop complex solutions in Medium Voltage air and gas insulated switchgear. May have hierarchical or functional responsibilities. May provide mentoring, instructions/assistance
  • If needed, manages the execution of verification & validation in laboratories and provides the analysis of results & reports to internal customers
  • Lead interface with manufacturing and quality organizations to ensure that a well-optimized and sustainable component/assembly is developed from fabrication/assembly concerns (Tolerance Analysis)
  • Helps establish internal procedures and best practices
  • Creation of multiple component/assembly solutions to envisioned product concept
  • Development to be synchronized with changes/advances to existing product releases. This includes manipulation of appropriate CAD software
  • Develop electronic and hard copy records that conform to internal standards and support the development, implementation, and maintenance stages of the projects/products. Examples include up-to-date BOM (part number, description, material, processes, where used), Component Drawings (geometry, functional dimensioning, process callout), and Project General Files
  • Prepare instructional/operational information as required
  • Prepares sketches or diagrams reflecting basic design concepts. Makes mathematical calculations and adjustments in drawings and specifications
  • Recommends changes or modifications as appropriate to meet manufacturability, functionality, and measurability requirements
  • Prepares and oversees final layout, detail, assembly drawings, and other required documentation
  • Creates computer models of the product design concept
  • Generates and maintains organized database and/or B.O.M., change reports and/or other documentation
  • Experienced in formal new product development processes (example, PMP)
