Job description

Financial Business Analyst (IVP)

Work Location:

Lisle, IL - Intervarsity Press

Schedule:

Full time

To advance the purpose of InterVarsity Press, this position will be responsible for providing financial accounting, reporting and analysis. The Financial Business Analyst will research, interpret and analyze financial information, develop financial reports, and provide communication and interpretation of financial information to InterVarsity Press management. The Financial Business Analyst will work closely with cross-functional teams and will review inventory activities of the Third-Party Fulfillment Service Providers in both the US and the UK.

Supervised by:   Divisional VP of Finance  

Status:  Exempt (salaried)  

Location:  Lisle, IL (hybrid/remote work agreement by arrangement), please note IVP is currently unable to hire candidates for remote work in California, Missouri, or outside the United States
Pay: 70,000 - 75,000 annually

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Personal

Conduct financial research and analysis by

  • Consolidating large sets of financial data that drive insights and business decisions.
  • Interpreting and analyzing financial activity in a timely and proactive manner for a variety of stakeholder needs.
  • Translating key financial findings and offer insights and solutions to InterVarsity Press management.
  • Conducting functional analysis and design solutions to improve business processes.
  • Researching, analyzing and publishing relevant industry and market trends.
  • Identifying business opportunities and developing action plans.
  • Assisting Divisional VP of Finance with special projects, as needed.

Provide analysis of inventory by:

  • Maintaining excellent working knowledge of IVP titles and all related formats.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure inventory accuracy and availability to meet customer demand.
  • Reviewing inventory levels and identifying trends to optimize inventory management.
  • Reconciling detailed subsidiary records to the general ledger monthly and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Coordinating periodic reviews of inventory reserve adequacy.
  • Assisting with inventory forecasting and planning.
  • Analyzing inventory data to identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Providing recommendations to improve inventory processes and procedures.

Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by:

  • Spearheading financial initiatives within various departments.
  • Driving innovation efforts within the organization to address business needs.
  • Developing optimization strategies for higher efficiency in areas related to accounting.
  • Working in partnership within the team and other teams as needed.

Maintain technical and professional growth and development by:

  • Staying current with computer programs InterVarsity Press uses to support the above functions
  • Attending workshops and classes as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • Annually affirm InterVarsity’s Statement of Faith 

  • Effective oral and written communication skills 

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, accounting processes and procedures and related InterVarsity Press policies 

  • Thorough understanding of state/federal regulations 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, particularly with financial matters 

  • Ability to wisely steward money, systems, and materials within the scope of the job 

  • Excellent documentation skills 

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, prioritize tasks and manage time effectively 

  • Ability to take charge of tasks and work independently without close supervision 

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and files 

  • Experience with Workday preferred, or evidence of ability to work within complex financial systems 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 

  • Demonstrated commitment to work in a diverse team environment 

  • Flexibility to attend the Urbana Student Missions Conference every six years, Dec 26-Jan 1, and National Staff Conference every three years (the year after Urbana), approximately Jan 2-7. 

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or related field 

  • CPA a plus but not required 

  • Experience required as described in the section below (dependent on the level of the position posted). Relevant higher education will be taken into account and may reduce the experience required. 

 

LEVELS IN JOB FAMILY (POSTING WILL STATE THE RELEVANT LEVEL AT THE BEGINNING OF THE POSTING) 

 

Associate Financial Business Analyst – Level 7 

 

The Associate Financial  Business Analyst will be responsible for all of the above and will have at least three years of relevant accounting experience with two or more years of strategic analysis experience preferred. Their work will be less complex and take more direction from a senior leader. 

 

Financial Business Analyst – Level 8 

 

The Financial Business Analyst will be responsible for all of the above and will have at least five years of relevant experience with two or more years of strategic analysis experience preferred. Independence and complexity of work will be increased over the Associate level. 

 

Senior Financial Business Analyst– Level 9 

 

The Senior Financial Business Analyst will be responsible for all of the above and will have at least eight years of relevant experience including two or more years of strategic analysis experience. Independence and complexity of work will be increased over the earlier levels and the Senior Financial Business Analyst will provide significant assistance to the Divisional VP of Finance in providing leadership and training to other Finance team members and projects.
