Job description

Senior HV Protection Design Engineer 

Salary: £70,000 - £80,000
Location: Remote

Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior HV Protection Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of high-voltage (HV) protection systems. This remote role involves delivering detailed designs for HV projects, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. A significant part of the role will involve working extensively with CAD and simulation software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop HV protection systems for transmission and distribution networks.
  • Perform protection coordination studies and relay setting calculations.
  • Create and review single-line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, and wiring diagrams using CAD tools.
  • Specify, configure, and test protection relays (e.g., distance, differential, overcurrent).
  • Conduct fault level and load flow analysis using simulation software.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation, including design specifications and calculations.
  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and other engineers to deliver solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards. 

Required Software Proficiency:

  • ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or equivalent for system modelling and analysis.
  • AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD software for electrical schematics and layouts.
  • Relay software tools 
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
  • Must be comfortable spending a significant portion of time working on CAD and simulation tools.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in HV protection design and engineering.
  • Strong understanding of HV equipment (transformers, switchgear, cables).
  • Proficiency in protection relay configuration and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of UK electrical network standards is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
