As a Head of Recruitment,t you’ll play a pivotal role in driving London South Bank University’s (LSBU) internationalisation activities in the South Asia (SA) region, with a primary focus in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The post-holder will develop and implement recruitment strategies to enhance LSBU’s regional presence and student acquisition. They will raise LSBU’s brand profile, establish strategic partnerships and identify development opportunities for sustainable growth. The post-holder must possess a clear understanding of markets across the region, to design and deliver tailored activities that address student needs and optimise agent pipelines in each market.
Leading regional teams and collaborating with QS/LSBU Student Success, Admissions and delivery teams, the post-holder will oversee recruitment, conversion, marketing and sales operations, manage agent relationships, and provide a seamless experience on behalf of the University. They will engage in strategic planning and international student recruitment initiatives with guidance from the LSBU Group Director of Marketing, Recruitment and Communications, and the Deputy Director of International Student Recruitment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for building LSBU’s profile regionally, and increasing international student enrolments:
• Apply specialist knowledge to promote the University in specific countries and across the region. This will involve developing strategies for each market and implementing activities, within agreed budgets.
• Continuously update and enhance knowledge of the region, staying informed about local developments, competitor activities, and factors that may impact the University’s operations, such as changes to admission criteria, pricing strategies, and the agent network, while providing actionable recommendations.
• Represent and actively promote LSBU at key higher education events across South Asia, including school visits, college fairs, and agent conferences, by delivering compelling presentations, engaging with prospective students, and providing strategic guidance to key influencers to enhance LSBU's visibility and recruitment success.
• Proactively generating new leads through diverse marketing and recruitment channels, while effectively managing and converting the enquiry pipeline by implementing streamlined lead qualification processes to ensure high-quality prospects.
• Manage, grow, and strengthen relationships with educational agencies and other sources of recruitment, and actively set and maintaining focus on targets.
• Analyse, recommend and present market-specific advertising opportunities to partner organisations and ensure the LSBU and stakeholder brand growth in the SA.
• Proactively liaise with the LSBU Group Director of Marketing, Recruitment and Communications and the Deputy Director International Student Recruitment.
• Work closely with other QS teams (Student Success, Admission, Client Success & Client Delivery Team) to provide a unified QS experience to LSBU.
• Provide regular updates on Regional Team performance and progress to LSBU Key Stakeholders.
• Assisting in the creation of an annual marketing plan to drive recruitment growth in the SA region.
Management responsibilities:
• Line management responsibility of Regional Managers in the South Asia region. Lead and coordinate the regional team to ensure operational effectiveness, aligning efforts with international student recruitment goals and partnership objectives, and driving progress towards achieving regional targets.
• Working closely as a regional team to undertake required University activity and making appropriate recommendations to improve regional operations and strategy.
• Resolving day-to-day problems and reviewing performance of Regional Managers for South Asia region.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant university policies and regulations, including those of its external regulators, while regularly reviewing the credibility and performance of recruitment agents to maintain high standards and alignment with LSBU’s values and recruitment objectives.
• Provide market insight on the economic, educational, and political landscape, as well as competitor activities in South Asia, advising on opportunities that align with and support the University’s internationalisation agenda in the region.
• To facilitate all administrative duties associated with student recruitment activities.
SA partnerships and recruitment agents’ engagement
• Develop long term sustainable relationships with key influencers, establishing and maintaining a broad network of contacts across international schools, colleges, universities and other representatives.
• Maintain strong relationships with the existing key recruitment partners.
• Use experience and judgement to identify, assess and recommend suitable agents for appointment as the University’s representatives.
• Monitor ongoing performance of any agents to ensure that expectations in terms of quality and criteria are met, that any under-performance is addressed and that recruitment targets are set each year.
• Manage relationships with other companies delivering student recruitment services to LSBU. This will involve acting as a key point of contact on behalf of the University as well as engaging internal stakeholders with external companies.
• Deliver regular training to agents, covering the University’s USPs and admissions / compliance processes.
• Identify new recruitment partners and potential new markets.
Financial:
• Monitoring and controlling financial spending for events and travel, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial processes, while operating within agreed budgets and maximising value for money.
• Support in developing a business plan against budgetary constraints and annual enrolment targets.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting requirements are met.
• Work with administration resources to monitor and update budgets throughout the year and to assist in providing outturn forecasts for the year-end.
• Provide analysis and reports on input, outcomes, and ongoing progress towards the team's objectives.
• Undertake frequent international travel according to the agreed market plan to assigned markets, devising itineraries that maximise the value of travel and minimise environmental impact.
Essential Criteria
• Educated to first degree level or 5+ years’ experience working in the higher education industry (preference given to experience with UK universities).
• Advanced-level English language skills.
• Ability to travel across SA
• Highly refined business presentation and reporting skills in English.
• High level of enthusiasm, personal commitment, and independence to undertake lengthy periods of travel without supervision
• Problem solving and organisational skills to deal with complex and difficult situations autonomously as they arise
• A high level of literacy and attention to detail to produce clear, concise reports and strategies
• High level of numeracy and prior experience of managing budgets and analysing basic statistical information
• Highly developed oral and written communication skills to deal with a wide range of contacts, both internally and externally, and at all levels from potential students to vice-chancellors and diplomats
• Experience of international conversion activity.
• A history of working with educational agencies in SA.
• Experience working with international students and higher education programmes.
• Experience selling a complex and diversified education product portfolio.
• Exceptional time management skills.
• Experience with customer service.
• Demonstrable ability to meet enrolment targets.
Highly Desirable Criteria
• Experience working with domestic universities, secondary schools, English language schools and other preparatory entities.
• Experience collaborating interdepartmentally and/or externally.
• Database management experience.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel and Microsoft office.
• Experience liaising with a geographically and culturally diverse team.
• An awareness of issues in marketing educational services in an international context.
• Sensitive to intellectual property and data protection.
• Ability to build and manage relationships with peers and senior managers.
