The Role
Within our Database Administration team at Kyndryl, you'll be a master of managing and administering the backbone of our technological infrastructure. You'll be the architect of the system, shaping the base definition, structure, and documentation to ensure the long-term success of our business operations.
Your expertise will be crucial in configuring, installing and maintaining database management systems, ensuring that our systems are always running at peak performance. You'll also be responsible for managing user access, implementing the highest standards of security to protect our valuable data from unauthorized access.
In addition, you'll be a disaster recovery guru, developing strong backup and recovery plans to ensure that our system is always protected in the event of a failure. Your technical acumen will be put to use, as you support end users and application developers in solving complex problems related to our database systems.
As a key player on the team, you'll implement policies and procedures to safeguard our data from external threats. You will also conduct capacity planning and growth projections based on usage, ensuring that our system is always scalable to meet our business needs.

Position Summary:
The Database Administrator creates, maintains, designs, monitors and troubleshoots client IMS databases and DB2 objects. Proficient with IBM IMS and DB2 database management utilities, develop and implement database recovery mechanisms and procedures for both IMS and DB2 components, and coordinate security measures to safeguard IMS and DB2 database integrity.
To lead DB2 z/OS projects and initiatives, working together with experienced DB2 z/OS and IMS DBAs.
- To work closely with IMS and DB2 z/OS System Programmers on IMS and DB2 z/OS systems and tools upgrades.
- To provide DBA support to a list of critical applications that use DB2 z/OS and IMS databases/transactions.
Key Areas:
- The successful candidate will perform IMS database and DB2 object changes coupled with administration and tuning to support our customers' IMS and DB2 environments.
- The individual will need to work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solutions of database problems.
- The individual will be responsible for day-to-day database maintenance such as creating backups, performing restores, monitoring file extent growth, scheduling reorganizations, creating and maintaining DR procedures and overall support of customer needs and requests.
- The successful candidate will be called upon to perform a variety of IMS and DB2 database optimizations that will include general reporting and analysis of the efficiency of the IMS database and DB2 objects configuration and periodic review of IMS database and DB2 objects performance.
- Expertise and work efforts will focus on the development and support and/or the customization of new services and support efforts.
- To ensure that all databases and environmental changes are appropriately tested and implemented in such a manner that there is no impact to the systems and clients.
- System programming knowledge of multiple DBMS's is a bonus.
- The individual will need to participate in on-call responsibilities.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required and/or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of professional experience in IMS and DB2 database administration.
- BMC COPE and IBM tools for IMS and DB2.
- IMS and DB2 systems programming support is a plus
- Extensive experience with the following:
- Knowledge of the best practices of software management, maintenance and documentation
- Establishing policies and procedures pertaining to database management, DR, maintenance and utilization
- Evaluating change requests and determine impact to assigned clients
- Vendor consultations for problems and questions
- DR recovery of application objects
- Troubleshooting and solving production database issues
- Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from client
- Supporting customer for after hours on-call
Database Administration
- Deep knowledge of IMS database organization using access methods of VSAM and OSAM
- Full function database organization types
- HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, GSAM
- Definition and use of LOGICAL databases
- HALDB (partitioned): PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, PSINDEX, etc.
- Fast Path databases (DEDBs)
- Broad knowledge of DB2 for Z/OS database components and concepts

Identification and resolution of performance issues
- Online tracing - Usage of IMS TRACE commands and associated utilities for spot monitoring of online program/transaction activity
- Extracting information from IMS logs using DFSERA10 and related utilities DFSUTR20 and DFSUTR30
- Use of DFSDDLT0 utility to access data
- Program/transaction monitoring – Familiarity with usage of IBM's IMS performance Analyzer product is a plus
- Using DBRC to monitor database activity
