Project description

Lillydale Home Based Care and Wisani DIC in South Africa has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as HIV/AIDS Prevention Coordinators. Implementing partner organizations are funded by PEPFAR to improve HIV/TB programs and strengthen South Africa’s response to the HIV epidemic through support from the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). These projects are aligned with PEPFAR’s aim to support South Africa’s National Strategic Plan for HIV and TB and the UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals to end AIDS.

The PCRVs will will support HIV prevention activities at the organization’s supported sites for priority populations (adolescent girls and boys, young women and men, orphans and vulnerable children). HIV prevention activities may include sexual and gender-based violence prevention (SGBV), adolescent & youth-friendly spaces, positive parenting, life skills, financial literacy, etc. The PCRV will support data collection and reporting activities as needed.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in South Africa together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, or another related field.
  • Experience in low-resource health systems.
  • Experience with HIV/AIDS, sexual/reproductive health, or social behavior change.
  • Experience with activity planning and coordination
