Head of Medical Affairs


Cartesian Therapeutics is a clinical-stage company pioneering mRNA cell therapies for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. The Head of Medical Affairs will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping and executing the medical strategy to support our therapeutic portfolio.

This key position will have the opportunity to build and lead the Medical Affairs function, driving the development and implementation of medical strategies aligned with our innovative pipeline. Leveraging our highly matrixed and collaborative team environment, the Head of Medical Affairs will establish and nurture relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and internal stakeholders to drive scientific exchange and support evidence-based medicine.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive medical affairs strategies, including scientific communication plans, medical education initiatives, and evidence generation activities to support product development and market access.
  • Align medical plans and activities with global business and commercial strategy while ensuring compliance with global and regional areas codes of practice.
  • Build and lead a high performing medical team to support engagement with medical communities and patients, clinical trial recruitment and information dissemination.
  • Engage with advocacy groups and engage with patient communities to establish Cartesian as a trusted partner within the patient community. Work to build relationships with patient groups and highlight opportunities for clinical trial enrollment.
  • Serve as a scientific and medical expert and spokesperson for our therapeutic areas, engaging with external stakeholders including healthcare providers, and academic institutions. Provide medical and scientific insights to inform clinical development plans, regulatory submissions, and commercial strategies, ensuring alignment with global regulatory standards and healthcare practices.
  • Lead and participate in advisory boards, symposia, and scientific conferences to gather insights, disseminate clinical data, and enhance awareness of our therapeutic innovations.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Regulatory Experts, and Pharmacovigilance to integrate medical insights into strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Lead the development of scientific publications, medical information resources, and educational materials to support medical education and awareness initiatives.
  • Provide expert knowledge of scientific literature, clinical trial data, and competitive landscape to provide proactive insights and recommendations that contribute to strategic positioning and competitive advantage.


Requirements and Desired Experience:

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, pharmacy, or medicine (MD, PharmD, PhD) is required with experience in neurology; other relevant therapeutics areas (rheumatology, cell and gene therapy) is a plus.
  • 10+ years of total experience in Biotechnology/Pharmaceutics with at least 5+ years in medical affairs
  • Proven leadership experience in Medical Affairs within industry, with a strong track record of developing and executing impactful medical strategies.
  • Deep understanding of global regulatory requirements, clinical trial design, and medical communication practices.
  • Experience working with field-based MSLs
  • Thorough understanding of the healthcare environment including all external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders across different levels and functions.

Salary Notice:

At Cartesian Therapeutics, we are committed to transparency and equity in our compensation practices. The salary range for this position is$250,000 to $300,000per year. Please note that the final salary will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to years of experience, industry experience, education, and specific skills relevant to the role. We believe in rewarding our team members fairly and encourage open discussions about compensation throughout the hiring process.
