Job description

The Counsel, Commercial Contracts position will support the Assistant General Counsel (Contracts Director) and join other Sr. Counsel, Commercial Contracts, in the management of a broad range of transactional, contract, insurance and other legal and compliance matters with a primary focus on managing and negotiating commercial contracts. This person will work closely with internal business and cross-functional corporate partners to identify issues and develop practical solutions.


This person will be charged with maintaining current knowledge of laws and regulations that may affect the business and assist the business with managing risk. Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Serve as one of the commercial contracting counsels for either the One80 Intermediaries or Risk Strategies platform.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and manage related life-cycles.
  • Support all platform business units, which may include insurance managing general agents and underwriters, third party administrators, brokerage operations, binding authority divisions, aggregators, warranties / service contract writers, and more.
  • Provide legal assistance on day-to-day operations and special projects as needed, including review of insurance regulatory issues and in setting, documenting and communicating policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including members of the legal team and other corporate functions, to resolve issues and mitigate risks.
  • Support senior members of the Legal & Compliance Department and assist with a range of other projects from time-to-time.
  • Perform project management functions as needed on an assigned project basis.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • J. D. from an accredited law school located in the US and membership in at least one state bar
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in-house or at a nationally recognized law firm
  • Experience handling contracts and demonstrable experience in one or more of the areas of responsibility
  • Mature judgment with the ability to build relationships and engender confidence across the entire organization and legal team and interact effectively with senior managers and other internal clients
  • Broad range of communication skills with the ability to express matters effectively in pragmatic, business-friendly terms to a wide range of audiences, including senior management
  • Exhibited project management proficiencies resulting in successful project completion
  • Organized planner with the capacity to manage and execute on priorities while working simultaneously on a variety of diverse projects within strict time constraints

The total compensation for a position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. The expected base pay range for this position is between $135,000 - $150,000 annually. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including geographical location, education, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
