About the Position

 

As the Director, Community Communications, you will oversee our Communications with different parts of our global community, with a special emphasis between our organization and the chapter community. You will be responsible for building connections, increasing awareness, and promoting our mission within the community. This role requires excellent communication skills, cross-department collaboration and coordination, a strong understanding of community dynamics, and the ability to develop strategies to engage and build trust with various stakeholders. This person will be leading a geographically dispersed team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and implement a holistic community communication plan that includes outreach programs and initiatives to enhance the organization's reputation, community engagement and advocacy of the advancement of a safe and globally connected Internet.
  • To ensure that our community communications are aligned with our Community engagement strategy.
  • Analyze community communications channels and gaps. Develop strategies to utilize channels effectively to promote collaboration and constructive conversation that will advance ISOC’s mission. Audit regularly, adjusting as needed.
  • Develop and execute an engaging community newsletter that will foster a sense of global community and inspire action.
  • Collaborate with communications team to create and execute community-related content and campaigns.
  • Contribute to the organization of community events and volunteer activities to promote the organization's mission, foster a collaborative community and fundraising initiatives.
  • Work with Chapters to identify human impact stories in their region.
  • Regularly conduct research and stay updated on community trends, needs, and escalate issues that may impact the organization's reputation or operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee the organization's participation in community sponsored events – ensuring proper branding, collateral and swag. 


Qualifications

 

  • 10-12 years of relevant experience in communications, community relations, public relations, or a related field.
  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, international relations, or a related field is required.
  • 3-5 years of management experience; has a proven background in leading and developing geographically dispersed teams.
  • Demonstrated experience and in planning and implementing community relations plans, with measurable results in increasing engagement and outreach initiatives.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, community engagement, and networking within diverse groups with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures.
  • Knowledge of community dynamics, issues, and resources with experience working in a global context; familiarity with international communication strategies, and fluency in English, French, Spanish is ideal. Arabic is considered a plus as well.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple projects demonstrating an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills to develop innovative community engagement strategies coupled with strong analytical skills, experience in using data to drive decisions, and a track record of identifying and solving communication challenges.
  • A solutions-focused mindset with the ability to pivot quickly.

Compensation and benefits for this position will be paid in local currency and based on the country and geographic location’s local salary and benefits market data for the position. Exact pay will be based on factors including but not limited to relevant qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, business, and organizational needs.
