As the preeminent international service organization of the United States, the Peace Corps sends Americans with a passion for service abroad to work with communities and create lasting change. Volunteers develop sustainable solutions to address challenges in Education, Health, Economic Development, Agriculture, Environment and Youth Development. Through their Peace Corps experiences, Volunteers gain a unique cultural understanding and a lifelong commitment to service that positions them to succeed in today's global economy. Since President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961, more than 240,000 Americans of all ages have served in 142 countries worldwide.
Southern Leyte State University-Bontoc Campus (SLSU-Bontoc) in the Philippines has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Coastal Resource Economics and Accounting Specialist. Coastal resources faces increasing challenges arising from population growth, climate change, and unsustainable resource exploitation and SLSU-Bontoc has a recognized need for a specialized focus on economic valuation and environmental accounting. Additional support in this area would support the ability to assess the economic significance of coastal resources accurately and incorporate their environmental impact into management plans.
The PCRV will collaborate closely with SLSU Bontoc personnel to contribute their unique expertise to enhance the economic understanding and environmental accounting of coastal resources. The PCRV will also assess the economic significance of coastal resources through valuation techniques, considering factors such as ecosystem services, fisheries, and tourism and integrate environmental accounting principles to evaluate the ecological impact of coastal resource utilization, providing a holistic perspective for sustainable management.
Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Philippines together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
