Your missions

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Travel to the audit site and arrange to stay in client's area during the audit.
  • Complete the GFSI report within the scheme required timeframe, in the scheme-approved format, and meet all CB requirements for submission of draft reports and final reports. Report submission is independent of expense submission.
  • Review and approve all facility corrections and corrective actions within the scheme dictated time frame.
  • Complete expenses for each client and submit at the conclusion of the audit. Expenses for extended trips that include proration must be submitted at the conclusion of the prorated trip.
  • Complete and successfully pass all required competency exams, continuing education and/or exercises as required by the various GFSI schemes in which approved to conduct audits.
  • Participate in and complete all CB directed calibration and training exercises related to GFSI.
  • Submit vacation requests and notify client services of any travel or personal conflicts that would prevent travel by requested deadlines for submission of this information. 
  • Ensure accurate review and verification of competencies and conflicts of interests as provided by the CB.
  • Provide audit plans and any other required documents to the client at least one week prior to the audit or as defined by scheme requirements.
  • Conduct Witness audits of new or existing auditors per CPO’s rules once training and competency requirements are fulfilled.

 

 

Additional Activities:

  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate that will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, and efficiency/effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

 

Principal Customers:

Food processors, food distributors and packaging facilities

 

 

Qualifications Required:

 

Education (Foundational Competence)

  • B.S. degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in bioscience or related topic to food safety

 

Work Experience (Foundational Competence)

  • Minimum 5 years of food industry experience in a responsible position related to food safety.

 

Audit Experience

  • 15 - 20 days of supervised audits including direct auditing experience in the relevant scheme

 

Other qualifications

  • Lead assessor qualification (ideally minimum 40 hours and including ISO19011 elements)
  • Certified HACCP Training based on CODEX principles.
  • Successful completion of scheme specific training.
  • Category specific requirements as determined by the scheme (Appendix 1)

 

QMS Training

  • Initial training includes administrative training (i.e., expenses, report processing system, etc.), and AIBI Standards training as delivered by an AIBI approved trainer. Training shall also include a review of accreditation standards (ISO 17021/17065), and internal QMS documents relating to the specific scheme.

 

Administrative Skills (Functional Competence)

  • Must possess excellent verbal communication skills, good writing abilities, correct grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. Be able to organize travel arrangements and travel to inspection sites; be able to work independently of direct office supervision and file all reports, requests for information and expenses in a timely manner; and be able to use a computer.

 

Physical Skills

  • Must be physically able to safely ascend to heights, be able to bend, crawl and move safely and freely around machinery and building without assistance. Must have eyesight or corrected eyesight to safely work around and inspect equipment, identify insect pests and to prepare inspection notes and reports without assistance.

 

On-going maintenance

  • Typically, 5-10 audits in the specific scheme annually
  • Annual professional development/continuing education training of a duration to be determined by the CM.
  • Scheme specific requirements (Appendix 1)

 

Lead Auditor/Witnesser Requirements

  • Typically, 3 - 10 audits conducted independently after initial approval.
  • Anyone who is an approved Lead Auditor may conduct a witness assessment for the scheme in which they are approved.

 

Other Requirements (Functional Competence)

The food safety auditor must:

  • Must be willing to travel up to 90% of the time.
  • Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner, including appearance and demeanor, at all times.
  • Carry out all GFSI audit assignments and follow all written and verbal instructions from AIBI and CB management as related to GFSI duties.
  • Maintain a valid and current driver's license, current automobile liability insurance and maintain a personal vehicle for business use.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility that will enable the auditor to travel, work and be away from home on company business.
