What We Can Achieve Together

The Development/Communications Writer works on behalf of The Nature Conservancy’s Michigan Chapter, writing and editing a variety of high-quality development and communications materials designed to inform, inspire, and engage current and potential donors. This Writer position is responsible for drafting funding proposals, funding reports, strategy and concept notes, annual reports and other donor and partner-focused materials as needed. This includes interviewing and working with staff and leadership across the Michigan Chapter to develop emotionally engaging and informative content that resonates with the goals, interests and values of foundations, partners, agencies and private donors.

In addition, the Writer provides editorial advice and expertise, oversees communication efforts on multiple projects, and may work with external writers, partners, and vendors. They may also provide writing and editing support to communication and marketing materials developed for the Michigan chapter, for the Michigan Management Team, as well as joint Midwest Division efforts. These materials may include newsletters, conservation and policy strategic plans and reports, magazines, and fact sheets. The Writer will use compelling messaging and storytelling approaches that are consistent with The Nature Conservancy’s global brand.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience writing or editing one or more of the following: grant proposals, funding reports, strategy and concept notes, newsletter, magazine, annual reports, executive leadership communications, donor profiles, fundraising campaign brochures, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with writing and editing one or more of the following: newsletters, magazines, website articles/stories, fact sheets, presentations, or equivalent.
  • Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
  • Excellent proofreading skills.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $67,000 - $71,300 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
