Summary

This position is located in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Office of Nutrition and Food Labeling, Division of Nutrition Programs, Nutrition Science Review Branch which is responsible for the development of regulations and policy related to the nutrition labeling of foods, including authorized health claims, qualified health claims, nutrient content claims, the Nutrition Facts label, the Supplemental Facts Label, and food fortification.

The position of Nutritionist falls under the 0630 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-12, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 09/16/2024. Basic Requirements Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. AND Minimum Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations. GS-12: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11, in the Federal service, which includes: assisting in drafting, reviewing or analyzing policies, regulations or initiatives pertaining to nutrition-related topics or nutritional labeling; conducting nutrition related scientific research, summarizing, analyzing or interpreting scientific evidence and data; providing scientific or technical advice on nutrition or nutrition-related topics or nutrition labeling.
