Job Description

Oracle Linux Services is a lean Cloud Engineering team within the Oracle Linux Engineering Organization focused on delivering Linux services via Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The team provides highly available services in a distributed environment using the latest cloud technologies. We are looking for a highly self-motivated Software Engineer to join our team to improve the Oracle Linux experience on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. You will be part of a full-stack, distributed software engineering team of motivated members with high level of impact on the services delivered and will have ownership of services deployed.

Responsibilities

As a member of the software engineering division, you will apply basic to intermediate knowledge of software architecture to perform software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications or operating systems according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.

  • Architecture and Design: Create and improve current service deployment infrastructure using automation and the latest cloud capabilities to improve agility, reliability, and traceability.
  • Ownership: Understand internal development processes end-to-end to streamline CI/CD pipelines.
  • Migration: Move/re-implement existing services to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in a manner that is secure and leverages the latest cloud services.
  • Support: Participate in an on-call rotation and provide high quality customer support. Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to major incidents and minimize service disruptions when they occur. Root cause issues so that improvements can be made.
  • Preferred Experience and Skills:
    • BS degree in CS, EE, IS/IT or equivalent: 3 - 5 years running distributed services in production on Linux.
    • Strong Experience with the Linux Command Line.
    • Experience developing automation and using open-source tools such as Ansible, Chef, Terraform, GitLab, GitHub, and/or Jenkins.
    • Experience with at least 1 scripting language: (e.g., bash, Python) and one compiled language (e.g., C, Go, Java).
    • Familiarity with Linux, Virtualization, and Public Cloud: AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
    • Familiarity with containerized applications, cloud networking, storage, and security.
    • Familiarity with monitoring and building dashboards (e.g., Grafana, Kibana, Prometheus).
    • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Handles challenging problems with a positive "can do" attitude.
    • Team player and able to work with others at all skill levels.
