About this role:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a talented and driven Account Manager to join us in Japan. Reporting into Senior Manager of Copyright and Permissions, this position will be responsible for growing permissions revenue across Wiley’s global content portfolio. Provides high-quality and efficient service to customers requiring permission to re-use Wiley material. Develops relationships with key customers in defined region and reports on market activity to drive revenue growth and help achieve annual permissions targets. Sells pharma permissions to key agency accounts via both directly and via other sales channels where appropriate.

How you will make an impact:

Customer Engagement

  • Monitor and evaluate existing and prospective licensees for potential licensing opportunities, using CRM such as SFDC, and reporting from transactional permissions services, such as RightsLink.
  • Oversee key customer accounts, setting and executing plans to improve understanding of customer requirements, to increase year over year revenues.
  • Propose alternative solutions to better service customer requirements, improving processes and strengthening relationships
  • Prospect with existing and new customers to build pipeline of new licensing opportunities.

Market Knowledge

  • Understand key trends in content licensing, working with Senior Manager to ensure Wiley offering is relevant
  • Develop understanding of pharma requirements for permissions licenses, including for clinical trial, marketing and medical educational purposes

Negotiation & Licensing

  • Negotiate licensing terms and conditions based upon existing templates and rate cards, with high-value/bespoke licenses worked on in partnership with Senior Manager.
  • Develop and maintain intermediate knowledge of deal/contract/payment systems and processes at Wiley.

Coordination & Communication

  • Report regularly to Manager and other Wiley colleagues on activities, opportunities and progress toward financial and non-financial objectives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any questions/problems arising with customers.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date account data in salesforce and Global Rights database.

What we look for:

  • Experience of sales/account management. Sales experience in publishing, pharmaceutical, media, or other content-focused creative industry would be ideal.
  • Experience in negotiating and closing licensing agreements.
  • Have knowledge of Copyright
  • Understanding of different sales models, and the ability to customise sales offering dependent on customer requirements.
  • Understanding of using sales reporting to analyse business and identify opportunities
  • Ability to negotiate within defined contractual and pricing terms effectively
  • Ability to execute against strategic plans and demonstrated high-level of achievement in prior roles.
  • Strong IT skills. Proficient in Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of CRM systems such as salesforce.com
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Japanese and English
  • Able to travel as necessary
