Description Of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Colorado State University’s ( CSU ) Office of Sponsored Programs ( OSP ) invites nominations and applications for the position of Senior Research Administrator ( SRA ). Sponsored Programs is the primary coordinating and managerial office for externally funded activities of a contractual nature at CSU . OSP oversees the full-range of research administration from proposal review and submission to final invoicing and project close-out.

CSU is a member of the Kuali Foundation, using Kuali Financial System ( KFS ) and Kuali Research (KR) for integrated research administration. CSU is a member and active in the Federal Demonstration Partnership ( FDP ) and the Council on Governmental Relations ( COGR ).

Position Summary

The Financial Research Administrator ( FRA ) position will be responsible for ensuring an assigned portfolio is compliant with Uniform Guidance, award terms and conditions, as well as institutional policies and processes. The FRA will be assigned to a research administrator team and work collaboratively with the team, all members of the Office Sponsored Programs staff, the campus community, and sponsors. This position will be expected to pull information from a variety of resources to determine the best answer to complex questions.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of post-award grant management/grant accounting experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma (or GED ) plus 6 years of post-award grant management/grant accounting experience will be accepted.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and advise on federal, state, and sponsoring agency’s rules, regulations, policies regarding sponsored projects.
  • Certified Research Administrator ( CRA ) or Certified Financial Research Administrator ( CFRA )

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category Post-Award Financial Grant Administration

Duty/Responsibility

  • Completes financial reports to be sent to sponsor, as required by the award terms and conditions (including SF-425).
  • Monitors assigned awards and performs financial and administrative analyses on a regular basis.
  • Consults with PI (Principal Investigators) and the department regarding improper account findings such as negative balances, unallowable costs, etc.
  • Works as an administrative resource to CSU research investigators, providing assistance, guidance and counsel during management, to verify and ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and financial compliance requirements, including institution policies and procedures, funding agency terms and conditions, OMB 2 CFR 200 from notice of award to closeout.
  • Verify accuracy of award setup, modifications, and budget information in Kuali Research and Financial.
  • Ensure timely financial closeouts.

  • Act as a financial liaison between the University and outside federal, state, local and private agencies.
  • Responds to inquiries in a timely manner using effective interpersonal communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and methods as appropriate to address questions and/or concerns.
  • Communicate guidance and recommendations to principal investigators and departmental research administrators to prevent out of balance or compliance situations in project budgets and/or accounting.
