We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Enablement and Governance Lead to join our data team and play a key role in shaping how data is used and thought of in the organization.

We recognize the strategic importance of data and the need to both manage/govern data as an asset as well as make it accessible to business consumers across the organization so it can be used to effectively drive decision-making. The lead will be responsible for managing the implementation of data governance, establishing data quality standards, and meeting privacy/compliance requirements of the organization.

As a key member of the data team, the lead will be engaged in all enterprise data projects/initiatives to ensure data is accessible to those who need it and to help drive a data-driven culture of data literacy, security, and compliance. This position will be engaged with various stakeholder and have responsibilities for communication and reporting to senior leaders and the Horace Mann Data Council.  

Key Areas of Impact Include: 

  • Act as a liaison between IT, legal, compliance, and business units. Participate in data related groups/committees (e.g. data privacy, data security, AI, etc.) and assist in development of related policies
  • Work closely with business units, IT, data stewards, and other stakeholders to ensure effective data governance practices
  • Conduct training sessions for leaders and employees on data governance principles and practices
  • Provide direction and support to data stewards, data owners and other staff to ensure data governance best practices are being followed
  • Develop metrics and reporting from various sources. Develop dashboards and visualizations for effective communication
  • Schedule and facilitate Data Council meetings, including preparing agendas, tracking and following up on action items
  • Ensure that data is accessible to relevant stakeholders by developing and maintaining data catalogs, metadata repositories, and data dictionaries
  • Manage a team of data professionals responsible for data analysis and quality assurance

  • Have strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, methodologies, and best practices 
  • Have large scale real world experience in data profiling and data analysis

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in data governance, data management, or a related field
  • Experience with data quality management, data stewardship, and data compliance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Proficiency with data governance tools and technologies (preferably Informatica)
