Belltower was formed in 2019 as AngelList’s native fund administrator and completed its journey to become an independent company at the end of 2023. Belltower provides fund administration services to the venture space. Our coverage ranges from syndicates to venture funds to first-of-their-kind rolling funds. Our full-service fund management offering abstracts away the complexity of running a fund by integrating the financial reporting, tax, compliance, portfolio management, and other services that managers typically have to cobble together from multiple vendors. Our services, combined with Angellist’s software, enable us to efficiently launch and scale a fund, allowing fund managers to focus on what they do best: investing.

Since 2019, Belltower has supported 20k+ funds representing over $16B in assets under administration, leveraging AngelList’s fund admin software to power the service layer for funds launched on the AngelList platform. 


About the Role:

The Fund Accounting Senior Manager is a critical member of the team responsible for overseeing the accounting, valuation, and reporting functions for 10,000+ funds run from the AngelList platform. This role will be a key member on a team that manages complex fund accounting work that leverages some automation and some manual work that is not yet automated. The Fund Accounting Senior Manager will resolve exceptions, address investor inquiries, and research new technical issues.

The Fund Accounting Senior Manager will report to the Fund Accounting Director and collaborate with other fund accounting team members and cross-functional operations teams. You will focus on managing the production of financial reporting deliverables for funds while also ensuring accurate accounting updates (including valuation of investments), resolving exceptions, addressing investor inquiries, and researching new technical issues. The role will involve interfacing directly with fund leads, fund investors, external auditors, and other parties.

You Will:
  • Oversee key team processes involved in ensuring accurate accounting for and reporting of investment companies
  • Develop and own descriptions, matrices and flow charts in relation to the processes key processes and controls
  • Develop and own processes to onboard new clients from existing administrators and service providers
  • Interact with external auditors and ensure timely completion of fund audits
  • Oversee portfolio company events and data evaluation, determining appropriate valuation actions for each investment
  • Ensure that accounting treatment for funds is in accordance with US GAAP, particularly ASC 946, ASC 820, and evaluate special situations
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to drive increased automation

  • You Have:
  • 10+ years of experience in investment company accounting, with a strong academic track record and CPA license (strongly preferred)
  • Have experience working with at a public accounting firm and/or experience at a fund administrator or investment advisor in a fund accounting  focused role
  • Proficiency in US GAAP, particularly ASC 946 and ASC 820
  • Extensive experience in financial statement creation for investment companies/funds, including writing footnotes
  • A track record of improving financial reporting control environments and SOC 1 report process implementation and/or management
  • Experience in preparing materials for and coordinating with external auditors
  • A commitment to success, self-motivation, and proactivity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with portfolio companies and lead investors
