Job description

The Virtualization & Storage Architect devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. Prepares detailed specifications for programs. Assists in the design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation of new software and enhancements of existing applications. Works with project managers, developers, and end users to ensure application designs meet business requirements. Formulates/defines specifications for complex operating software programming applications or modifies/maintains complex existing applications using engineering releases and utilities from the manufacturer. Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents those programs. Provides overall operating system, such as sophisticated file maintenance routines, large telecommunications networks, computer accounting, and advanced mathematical/scientific software packages. Assists all phases of software systems programming applications. Evaluates new and existing software products.  

 

Education and Experience: 

  • BS Degree and 7+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 4+ years of relevant experience. Specific experience, education and training may be considered in lieu of degree. 

  • A current MCSA/MCSE Server certification 

  • Oracle Certified Master, Oracle Certified Expert, Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, WebLogic, or Sun Solaris Certification required 

  • Current VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) or equivalent 

  • IAT Level II certification is required. Must have a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (CompTIA Security+ce, CCNA Security, CySA+, etc.) 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Design, configure, maintain, and test virtual servers utilizing the VMware vSphere suite.  

  • Provide technical and procedural recommendations for implementing virtual servers. 

  • Maintain a high availability VMware Horizon suite supporting customer VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure} requirements.   

  • Configure and maintain end user profile management via VMware UEM/DEM. 

  • Provide recommendations for solving complex virtualization and storage problems. 

  • Identify process improvements that can be realized through using virtualization technologies and products. 

  • Provide status reports and document requirements for virtualization and storage products appropriate for customer’s operating environment. 

  • Build and maintain the servers required for development work, internal testing, customer testing and production environments. 

  • Maintain access privileges and account groups as directed by development team. 

  • Collaborate with operations, QA and third party data centers to provide technical direction on network topologies, server configurations, hardware/software deployments, firewall configurations and other administrative tasks related to the staging and maintenance of company development, testing and production servers. 

  • Ensure timely and effective delivery of hardware upgrades, network upgrades and new configurations. 

  • Document technical requirements, develop and oversee project plans and implement change control procedures. 

  • Facilitate design sessions and architectural reviews. 

  • Interact with customers, third party vendors, and government leadership at the technical level, as required. 

  • Engage in hands-on lab testing and development for problem resolution, new product reporting, or technical functionality. 

  • Review application of STIGs and DOD configuration guidance in images for completeness and correctness. 

  • Develop and maintain POA&M and System Security Plan (SSP) documentation for customer’s virtual and physical server infrastructure and systems. 

  • Develop documentation in regards to administration, maintenance, structure, and user permissions for servers. 

  • Manage and report on the overall server health and functionality. Manage and document physical layout and organization of server and network stacks. 

  • Provide virtual machine support to end-users. 

  • Manage system security, patching and upgrades. 

  • Create, update, test, and troubleshoot VDI images for all end user devices.

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Experience in IT Infrastructure and Virtualization including: 

  • VMware vSphere 6.5 

  • VMware Horizon View 7.x 

  • Storage Solutions 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Ability to organize and facilitate planning and demonstrations  

  • Ability to track, manage, and ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

 

Technical Knowledge 

  • Participates in the design of these systems in conjunction with IT team 

  • Support the Business Technology Infrastructure team to apply VDI systems technology solutions in support of identified business problems 

  • Responsible for analysis, administration, and support of VMWare Horizon View VDI, thin clients, and other VDI-related technology 

  • Provisions servers including: adding, allocating and managing vDisks for end-user devices 

  • Participates in evaluation, selection, implementation and on-going support of software, hardware and tools used by the Enterprise Infrastructure platform 

 

Clearance/Citizenship:  

  • Secret 

  • Must be US Citizen 

 

Travel Requirements:  

 

This position will involve minimal travel
