We’re looking for our next Database Administrator. Could It Be You?

The Database Administrator will be part of a team that drives the implementation of core database infrastructure components for cloud-native applications, creating tools and services that power our Engineering teams. Collaborating with different teams influencing the design and delivery of our database footprint.

What’s it like working as a Database Administrator at Questrade?

The Database Administration team provides support for all database engines within Questrade and will enjoy the challenge of operating complex and mission-critical systems under extreme loads. The Cloud DBA will be able to work with a diverse set of database engines within the cloud infrastructure as well as the chance to work in a hybrid environment that includes supporting on-premise database engines. The DBA team works closely with multiple teams such as Engineering, Production Support, Network, and Sysadmins. The role also requires team members to work weekends and evenings when on-call.

YOU our next Database Administrator ? You are if you…

• Have a deep understanding of Relational databases, NoSQL databases, Cloud databases
• Have 3+ years of experience with database administration
• Are Champion “Production Quality” and create cutting-edge cloud database infrastructure through developing automation.
• Build and improve different tooling ranging from administration tasks to DR automation to developer helpers
• Lead and participate in technical discussions to aid system design, analysis, and troubleshooting
• Help engineering teams to develop, test, debug, and release scalable, resilient, and highly available cloud-native applications quickly.
• Offer expert-level knowledge during incidents or other special events when on call.
• Have a good knowledge and interest in Cloud computing concepts and solutions including public, private, and hybrid cloud.
• Have experience with at least one of the predominant public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Have hands-on experience with container technologies, like Docker runtime and Kubernetes orchestration.
• Have experience with the Linux operating system and proven experience in supporting database systems running on Linux
• Have ability to write clean code Python, Bash
• Have experience in supporting critical database systems
• Have excellent organizational, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills and ability to write clear technical documentation.
• Have good grasp of database monitoring and alerting
• Hold BSc in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline and experience is desired
  
  
  

Additional Kudos If You…

• Have experience building CI/CD pipelines using eg. Gitlab CI
• Have experience working with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and Cloud Deployment Manager.
• Have experience with GCP
• Have experience working with database engines such as MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, CloudSQL, Firestore, BigQuery
• Have experience with Hashicorp Vault or other secrets management approaches
