The Cable Technician II is a
skilled professional responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair
of telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure within a Department of
Defense (DoD) environment. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related
technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, technical
training, and work experience. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years
of related telecommunications experience and be familiar with BICSI standards.
They must possess related certifications for Fiber Optic and CAT6 Cable
Installation and maintain an active Secret Clearance.
This position is contingent
upon contract award.
Essential Duties
and Responsibilities:
· Analyze,
administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
· Dress, terminate,
and test cables and components using industry-standard techniques and tools.
· Utilize network
cabling test equipment, including network testers, copper cable testers, OTDRs,
and fiber power meters.
· Respond to
trouble calls, perform routine maintenance, and repair cabling infrastructure
as needed.
· Install,
maintain, and repair voice and data communications systems.
· Identify, track,
and remove abandoned cable, ensuring cable management adheres to safety
standards and is neatly tied and bundled.
· Communicate
effectively with personnel of various expertise levels, providing high-quality
customer support in a high-visibility environment.
· Analyze problems,
identify solutions, and resolve cabling issues with attention to detail and
accuracy.
Requirements
Education and/or
Experience:
· Bachelor’s Degree
in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education,
technical training, or work experience.
· 3+ years of
related telecommunications experience.
· 3+ years of experience
working as a Cable Technician within the DoD environment.
Certifications,
Licenses, Registrations:
· Must possess
related certifications for Fiber Optic Cable and CAT6 Cable Installation.
Security
Clearance:
· Must maintain an
active Secret Clearance.
Knowledge, Skills,
and Abilities:
· Familiarity with
BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
· Proficiency in
the use of network cabling test equipment, including network testers, copper
cable testers, OTDRs, and fiber power meters.
· Skilled in
dressing, terminating, and testing cables and components.
· Competence in
working with power tools and ladders.
· Ability to
perform tasks requiring physical dexterity and the handling of cables and
equipment.
· Strong customer
support skills and the ability to work effectively in a high visibility
environment.
· Excellent problem
analysis and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment:
This position will be
primarily on-site at the Pentagon Reservation, where the Cable Technician II
will work within secure facilities and must comply with all security protocols.
The role may involve working in confined spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting
heavy objects. While the opportunity to work from home may be available, it is
not guaranteed and will depend on the specific requirements of the role and
managerial discretion. The technician may also be required to respond to
emergency situations outside of standard working hours.
