A sales tax consulting firm in a niche industry is searching for a skilled Tax Manager to work remotely in the Bay Area, California. This role involves overseeing a range of client engagements, from monthly sales compliance to long-term consulting projects. They are looking for candidates with at least 5 years of sales tax consulting experience, with a deep understanding of multi-state tax regulations. The position is open to candidates looking to work part-time for approximately 25-30 hours per week, or for those who desire a full-time schedule. Part-Time Salary Range: $60 - $80 / hour DOE

Full-Time Salary Range: $125, 000 - $160, 000 / year DOE

Tax Manager Requirements**

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA or CMI certification is preferred
• Minimum 5-10 years of experience specifically in sales tax consulting
• Experience with big 4 accounting firms or technology/software industry consulting is preferred
• A deep understanding of multi-state sales tax regulations
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with strong capabilities in VLookups and pivot tables
• Demonstrated experience with Avalara and a thorough understanding of Sales Tax Nexus;familiarity with other tax software is a plus
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax concepts to team members and eventually to clients
• Proactive and organized professional who excels in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Tax Manager Responsibilities

• Manage 10-30 client engagements per month, offering strategic advice and overseeing compliance
• Handle both long-term projects and short-term inquiries, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction
• Oversee the preparation and review of sales and use tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Provide tax planning and advisory services to minimize liabilities and support clients'business objectives
• Stay updated with tax law changes to offer timely and effective advice
• Lead and delegate tasks to team members, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
