Summary of Position

The machine learning effort is part of the Data Science team at Teladoc Health. In your role as an Applied ML Scientist, you will work closely with machine learning scientists and marketing teams to create scalable data processing and machine learning pipelines that directly drive Teladoc Health’s business forward.  Your efforts and your team’s contributions will have a big impact on increasing our reach on a greater number of people living with chronic and behavioral conditions.  

This is an opportunity to use technical rigor to apply scalable data processing tools and machine learning algorithms to real-world business problems; and engineer, deploy, measure and iterate ML in production. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Investigate, explore and prototype advanced ML algorithms to better understand the users’ behavior and improve the users’ enrollment.  

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain production-grade scalable ML pipeline including data cleaning and transformation, feature construction, model training, tuning, evaluation, serving and monitoring dashboards.  

• Use Python, SQL, Spark, TensorFlow and PyTorch to write clean, reusable and robust code for data-engineering and machine learning pipelines. This includes data transformation, feature engineering, unsupervised learning, supervised learning and reinforcement learning.  

• Interpret the results of your work for marketing, product and business stakeholders.   

• Collaborate closely with product management and marketing team to discover and distill requirements of problem definitions, evaluation metrics, product features and architecture to improve the outcomes using insights and models.   

• Solid communication and stakeholder management skills plus ability to deliver complex projects in time.

The time spent on each responsibility reflects an estimate and is subject to change dependent on business needs.

Qualifications Expected for Position

• 2+ years’ experience in Machine Learning, Data Science roles in SaaS or consumer companies.  

• A Master’s degree or higher in computer science, machine learning, information systems, engineering, or a related field.  

• Self-driven individual with strong ML theoretical background and passionate about learning new approaches, techniques, and tools.  

• Deep knowledge of probability, statistics, recommendation engines, deep learning, and ML algorithms.  

• Familiarity with multi-armed bandit problem, reinforcement learning, Thompson sampling and importance sampling would be a huge plus.  

• Ability to write clean, robust and reusable code in Python, Spark and SQL. Familiarity with big data platforms (like Spark and Dask), machine learning frameworks (like Tensorflow, Keras or PyTorch) and libraries (like Pandas and Scikit-learn).  

• Familiarities with the cloud ETL and ML pipeline tools like Jenkins, Databricks, MLflow or Airflow.  

• Experience with agile sprint processes to deliver ML work.  

• Great active listening skills to infer product needs and underlying context.  

• Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, and respect for user privacy.
