The Emergency Medicine Veterinarian at the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at Louisiana State University is designed to act as a regularly scheduled staff doctor that will participate in receipt and management of clinical patients presented to the VTH Small Animal Emergency Service. As part of the clinical duties, working schedules may include nights, weekends, holidays, and disaster relief on an as needed basis in addition to or in lieu of normal daytime working hours. The veterinarian will participate in daily clinical teaching activities involving rotating house officers (interns) and veterinary students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree: Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine or equivalent
Specific Experience: Candidates should have successfully completed the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) or its equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree: DVM with 1 year of experience
Specific Degree: Preferred completion of a rotating internship or its equivalent clinical experience.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Essential Personnel - This position may be required to report to campus in time of emergency and/or closure per PS-18
Able to answer phone calls after hours from students for issues regarding department. May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
