Technology Aspect: To establish a clear duty of care, Stellar Virtual and its affiliates require all employees to cover the costs associated with acquiring and providing the equipment (i.e., computers, internet service, telephone, home office setup, etc.) associated with virtual employment.
Position Overview
The IT Director will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day IT operations, support, logistics, governance, and security. This position will play a pivotal role in managing and enhancing our day-to-day IT operations, support, logistics, governance, and security. This role will take on a new level of leadership and will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless functioning of our IT department.
Essential Position Functions
- Oversight of IT operations with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness.
- Leadership of a dynamic team comprising both in-house and contracted IT professionals.
- Design and implementation of innovative IT strategies to align with organizational goals.
- Maintenance and future-proofing of our IT infrastructure, including analysis of business requirements for IT needs and systems.
- Assessment of the need for new equipment and software to stay ahead in technological advancements.
- Identification and elimination of security risks, establishment of governance protocols, and regular execution of security audits.
- Evaluation of IT operations against established goals for continuous improvement.
- Management of the company help desk to enhance user satisfaction and decrease response times.
- Preparation of comprehensive progress and budget reports for upper management.
- Planning of the IT organizational structure, including recruitment, interviews, and hiring of new IT staff that includes all fully remote workers.
- Building and maintaining relationships with external vendors, ensuring contracts align with security, backups, governance, and compliance standards.
- Design and implementation of training programs for the department and all employees to ensure security and compliance.
- Maintenance of up-to-date documentation for departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensures departmental Standard Operating Procedures documentation is regularly reviewed and updated to ensure compliance and up-to-date processes to promote efficiency.
- Manages logistics operations of student Chromebook fulfillment and reclamations
- Manages backlog of IT governance, stability, security, and defect resolution projects and enhancements; develops, keeps updates, and reports on departmental roadmap; manages vendor improvement lists and keeps vendors accountable for deadlines
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Preference for candidates with IT experience in K-12 schools and/or the Ed Tech industry.
- Preference for candidates with experience running high-performing IT Helpdesk functions at scale
- Sound understanding of computer systems, networks, security, telecommunications, databases and storage systems
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize tasks and projects
- Solid working knowledge of common coding languages, security protocols, and integration protocols commonly used in the Ed Tech industry (LTI, OneRoster, etc)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Team oriented
Education & Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, information systems, computer science, or related field (graduate degree a plus)
- Minimum eight years of experience working in IT operations
- Minimum three years of experience overseeing IT teams and projects
- Certifications and continuing education are preferred.
