A Product Development Metrology Technician works full-time in VEV Metrology Lab. The Technician is responsible for performing vehicle, system or subsystem measurements and tests. The metrology process involves handling several types of measurement equipment. The test process aslo involves handling and building automated test devices and replicating vehicle positions through 3D scanning and CAD files. These tasks are performed using a high level of working knowledge in the fields of: measurements, automotive mechanics and 3D scanning/CAD. The candidate is responsible of assuring instrumentation and test quality during the whole process, maintaining continuous communication with Ford and non-Ford personnel.
Responsibilities
Process ELMS request, understanding the requestor needs and having adequate communication with him until the test request is finished. The candidate must be able to keep track of all the performed activities, components and equipment through the available formats. The candidate must also document working hours and details in the ELMS schedule and discussion board.
Follow metrology test procedures, understanding the importance of not generating deviations.
Communicate needs to Prototype Workshop, Storage and Testing Garage, keeping the work flow steady.
Run automated tests, keeping record of the test conditions, files and results.
Perform vehicle, system or subsystem 3D scanning tests
Drive vehicles and evaluate any instrumentation quality concern that might affect the test, safety or development purposes.
Practice and promote safe working habits and maintain a clean working environment as 5S´s and Visual Factory in their working areas and within the laboratory.
Maintain and control the supplies and resources to support daily work.
Train new team members in testing techniques, equipment, testing hardware and data analysis software.
Possess and promote a positive attitude, proactivity and performs other duties as assigned.
Perform a variety of liaison duties by communicating project results to the customers and management via email, text messages, conference calls and face to face conversations.
Able and willing to work off shifts, days off and weekends as necessary.
Qualifications
Position Qualifications:
Bachelors or Technical Degree (minimum) or Professional (incomplete)
Skills in automotive electronics and mechanics are required. Programming and CAD skills are optional.
Working knowledge of data collecting devices including but not limited to: data loggers, microcontrollers, dedicated laboratory equipment.
Knowledge of various physics measurement concepts such as: position, speed, acceleration, force, voltage, current, pressure and temperature.
Solid organizational skills including proven ability to multi-task and maintain project deadlines
Ability to work independently and communicate results with solid verbal and written skills
Proficient in utilizing MS Office tools (Excel, Word. Outlook, SharePoint)
Willingness to learn new testing techniques.
