About the Role

Bird is seeking an experienced and strategic Sr. Manager, People Partnering (HRBP Function) to serve as both the HR Business Partnership Leader and Corporate HRBP. Reporting to the VP, People, this role leads Bird’s global People Partner (HRBP) function and directly supports a portfolio of departments including Legal, Workplace Operations, Finance, Corporate Development, Strategy, HR & Technology.

In addition to managing the People Partners, this leader is a key connector across the business, enabling scalable people solutions that support engagement, development, and performance. The Sr. Manager will also be responsible for refining and evolving HR Business Partnership processes to ensure consistency, efficiency, and strategic impact across teams.

Reporting Relationship: The role reports to the Vice President, People, who reports to the CEO.

Team Overview: 

This role leads the HR Business Partnership and drives forward HR Programs globally across Bird with teams across N. America & Europe. The team this role oversees the People Partner(s)

  • Individual Contributor Focus:
  • Acts as the Corporate HRBP for Bird’s central functions: Legal, Workplace Operations, Finance, Corporate Development, Strategy and Technology.

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Business Partnership Leadership & Corporate HRBP

  • Lead the global HRBP function and serve as a thought partner to senior leaders across business units.
  • Act as the People Partner for Bird’s corporate teams, building strong relationships and driving talent outcomes across Legal, Workplace Operations, Finance, Corporate Development, Strategy, HR & Technology.
  • Provide strategic counsel on org design, team effectiveness, workforce planning, and change leadership.
  • Coach and enable your People Partner team to deliver consistent, high-impact support aligned with Bird’s culture and business goals.
  • Continuously improve and refine the HR Business Partnership operating model, tools, and processes to enhance quality, consistency, and scalability of support.
2. Performance Management 
  • Champion a culture of continuous feedback and growth—enabling people managers to lead with clarity, empathy, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with the People Partner team to ensure performance management practices are applied equitably across regions, functions, and levels.
  • Track and analyze performance trends to inform workforce decisions and identify opportunities for targeted interventions or manager upskilling.
  • Oversee and guide the delivery of performance management actions, including:
    • Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs): Develop and standardize clear, supportive PIP templates and frameworks. Coach managers through the process to ensure plans are actionable, time-bound, and developmentally focused.
    • Written Warnings & Corrective Actions: Ensure documentation is consistent, legally sound, and aligned with Bird’s expectations around fairness, accountability, and employee support. Partner with Legal and HRBPs as needed.
    • Individual Development Plans (IDPs): Promote proactive development planning as a core part of Bird’s performance culture. Provide tools and guidance for managers to support employee growth.
    • Manager Coaching: Serve as a thought partner and advisor to managers navigating complex performance situations. Equip leaders with skills to give timely feedback, address underperformance, and recognize top talent.
3. Talent Development & Organizational Design
  • Support talent reviews, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives across functions.
  • Drive proactive workforce planning and organizational effectiveness, working closely with senior leadership.
  • Partner with leadership to strengthen leadership capabilities and scale people manager success.
4. Culture, Employee Experience & Change Management
  • Champion Bird’s mission and values, ensuring they are embedded in day-to-day experiences and decisions.
  • Lead and manage employee relations matters and workplace investigations with fairness, consistency, and discretion.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers on complex interpersonal and performance issues, delivering solutions that are people-first and legally sound.
    Serve as a key change agent across teams, guiding communication and adoption of org and process changes.
  • Continuously assess and improve the employee experience with a focus on engagement, inclusion, and retention.
5. Team Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing People Partner team with a strong culture of trust, accountability, service, and continuous learning.
  • Foster an inclusive team environment where diverse perspectives are valued and encouraged.
  • Collaborate closely with leaders in People Operations, Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Legal, and Finance to deliver seamless and aligned people strategies.
  • Serve as a connector between the business and the broader People team—ensuring insights from the field inform scalable, employee-centric programs.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, contributing to org-wide people initiatives that elevate the employee experience and drive business outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to the VP, People, and senior leadership team, helping shape the future of the People function at Bird.

6. Process Optimization & HR Technology Enablement

  • Partner cross-functionally with People Operations, Payroll, Benefits, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation across the employee lifecycle.
  • Champion the effective use of Bird’s HR tech stack to drive efficiency, data integrity, and user-friendly experiences for employees, managers, and the People team.
  • Leverage systems such as BambooHR, ADP, Ceridian Dayforce, Greenhouse, Lattice, Radford, Pave, Zendesk, Confluence, and Google Suite to enable scalable, tech-forward solutions.
    Act as a connector between business needs and HR systems capabilities—surfacing insights and contributing to the design and adoption of tools, workflows, and dashboards.
  • Collaborate with People Operations and HR Systems teams to ensure accurate and actionable data is captured and used to inform strategic workforce decisions.

What You Bring

  • REQUIRED: 10+ years of progressive experience in HR Business Partnership, including 3+ years in a people management role with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams required.
  • REQUIRED: Experience at both large-scale public companies and smaller-scale start-up private environments required 
  • Strong track record of success as both an HR Business Partnership Leader and an effective Corporate HRBP.
  • Deep understanding of organizational development, leadership coaching, and employee relations.
  • Ability to partner at the executive level and influence decisions through data, storytelling, and trust.
  • Experience in high-growth, remote-first, and international environments.
  • Systems- and process-oriented with strong change management and communication skills.
  • Expertise in leveraging HR tech tools and dashboards to inform insights and track results.
