Job description

The E.W Scripps company is hiring a Sr Dir, Content Licensing and Co-Production. This individual will be responsible for the strategic development and execution of content licensing for the Scripps brands. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of the media landscape, exceptional negotiation skills, and a proven track record in licensing agreements, with a particular focus on content acquisitions. Identify content and partnerships that align with our brand’s needs, as well as drive  value content through original co-productions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Identify and evaluate content for acquisition across all Scripps brands and platforms.
  • Negotiate licensing agreements with content producers, distributors, and other partners to maximize revenue and ensure favorable terms for the company.
  • Lead co-production efforts with domestic and international partners to create original content, leveraging relationships and understanding of global markets while guiding creative input when applicable.
  • Work with internal teams to research market trends, audience preferences, and competitive landscape to inform content licensing decisions and opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry contacts, including producers, distributors, and content creators, to facilitate successful partnerships and collaborations.
  • Manage department budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources for acquisitions and co-productions while maximizing ROI.
  • Mentor and manage a team of content acquisition specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the department.
  • Work closely with marketing, legal, and production teams to ensure seamless execution of licensing and co-production agreements.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of content acquisition initiatives and report findings to senior leadership.
     

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Media, Communications, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Generally, 10+ years of experience in content licensing, acquisitions, or co-productions within the media or entertainment industry.
     

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating complex licensing agreements and managing co-production projects.
  • Extensive network of industry contacts and relationships in content creation, distribution, and media sales.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and forecast trends.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven leadership ability with a track record of successfully managing and developing teams.
  • A passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of diverse content genres.
