Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Reinsurance is a leader in the Accounting department and oversees and manages all aspects of the reinsurance accounting and operations within the insurance division of the Porch Group of companies. This position reports to the Controller of the insurance division at Porch.
 

What You Will Do As A Senior Manager, Reinsurance Accounting

  • Reinsurance Accounting Oversight: Manage the end-to-end accounting and control processes for ceded reinsurance programs, ensuring compliance with GAAP and statutory standards. Lead initiatives to streamline and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Advanced Technical and Analytical Expertise:
    • Strong Reinsurance Knowledge: Provide expert guidance on complex reinsurance arrangements, such as quota share and excess of loss programs, and assess their operational and accounting impacts.
    • Process Improvement: Drive efficiency through workflow automation and the implementation of advanced tools like Alteryx to optimize accounting processes.
    • Data Analytics: Develop robust analytics and reports to deliver actionable insights into the performance and impact of reinsurance programs.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as the organization’s go-to expert on reinsurance accounting, providing guidance on GAAP and statutory requirements.
  • Industry and Operational Knowledge:
    • P&C Insurance Expertise: Apply a comprehensive understanding of property and casualty insurance operations, emphasizing the role of reinsurance in the broader business model.
    • Emerging Trends: Stay abreast of trends such as parametric reinsurance and reciprocal exchanges, leveraging insights to provide strategic advantages.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3-4 accounting professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Monthly Close Collaboration: Partner with the HOA Accounting team to execute monthly close processes, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with quarterly and annual Schedule F requirements.
  • Strategic Assessment: Collaborate with senior leadership to evaluate the accounting implications of various reinsurance programs, including quota share and catastrophe excess of loss arrangements.
  • Reinsurance Workstream Leadership: Drive workstream changes in response to evolving internal programs and organizational structures, such as pending reciprocal exchange entities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with actuarial and FP&A teams to align contract terms with monthly actuals, forecasts, and strategic plans.
  • Broker Relationships: Build and maintain effective partnerships with external brokers, ensuring timely and accurate cession statements, payments, and collections.
  • Collateral Management: Oversee collateral requirements, including forecasting, and ensure the company’s interests are protected.
  • Audit Facilitation: Act as the primary contact for reinsurance matters during internal and external audits.
  • Education and Training: Provide reinsurance education to internal stakeholders and lead ad hoc training sessions to enhance organizational understanding of reinsurance programs.
  • Special Projects: Lead or support other projects as they arise.

What You Will Bring As A Senior Manager, Reinsurance Accounting

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (required); CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in reinsurance, including at least 3 years in a management role.
  • Deep financial acumen with a solid understanding of statutory and GAAP reporting requirements.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of property and casualty insurance operations and reinsurance structures.
  • Proficiency with systems such as NetSuite, FloQast, and Alteryx is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proven ability to mentor and coach team members effectively.
  • Strong strategic thinking and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

What You Will Get As A Porch Group Team Member 

Pay Range*: $132,000 - $184,800

*Please know your actual pay at Porch will reflect a number of factors among which are your work experience and skillsets, job-related knowledge, alignment with market and our Porch employees, as well as your geographic location.  
 
Additionally, you will be eligible to receive long-term incentive awards, subject to program guidelines and approvals. 
 
You will also be eligible to receive an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, subject to program guidelines and approvals.
