Requirements
The Senior Editor/Writer at the Center on Education and the Workforce (CEW), a research and policy institute within the McCourt School of Public Policy, Georgetown University, will support CEW’s work on the links between education, career qualifications, and workforce demands. The Senior Editor/Writer works closely with CEW researchers, editor/writers, and communications professionals to interpret economic and education research findings for a general audience. This role includes the responsibilities of editing, drafting, revising, and/or co-authoring a variety of products, potentially including research reports, op-eds, blog posts, website content, e-newsletters, social media posts, and other components of CEW’s written work. The Senior Editor/Writer will regularly engage in substantive editing, copy editing, and proofreading, along with drafting and reworking drafts and providing feedback on data visualizations. The Senior Editor/Writer will apply keen attention to detail to support CEW’s commitment to providing accurate and clear information to a general audience, including policymakers and researchers.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Work with teams of economists and education researchers to outline, write, revise, and edit long-form reports.
Draft and edit short-form products, including blog posts, op-eds, newsletters, and press releases.
Ensure adherence to the house style guide by applying a thorough knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and evolving best practices for language use.
Work with contracted copy editors to ensure consistency and minimize errors.
Proofread projects in various stages of production.
Maintain familiarity with current issues in labor economics and postsecondary education to accurately reflect those issues in CEW publications.
Manage multiple work tasks and projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
Work Interactions
This position reports to the Editorial Director and collaborates closely with members of CEW’s research, editorial, and communications teams. The Senior Editor/Writer plays a crucial role in ensuring that CEW communicates its research clearly to the general public and various stakeholder groups. The position responsibilities include helping to shape the narrative of CEW’s reports and other publications and communications vehicles; as well as ensuring clarity, accuracy, consistency, and a high level of professionalism within CEW’s written products.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of related experience is required. A master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience is preferred
Editorial and writing experience, preferably focused on topics such as economics, the workforce, and postsecondary education and training
Excellent editing and writing skills
Ability to build compelling and accurate narratives derived from quantitative data, using clear and accessible language suitable for the general public and media outlets
Ability to balance big-picture thinking with keen attention to detail
Demonstrated experience working on long, complex reports (up to 100 pages) with companion executive summaries
Ability to write and edit shorter documents, such as press releases, blog posts, op-eds, and grant proposals
Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
Demonstrated experience in writing about both quantitative and qualitative data
Preferred Qualifications
An individual who is a self-starter and possesses a strong work ethic, exhibiting excellent time-management abilities while effectively managing multiple projects simultaneously
Exhibit tact, firmness, and sound intuition in interactions with authors, researchers, and others
Experience creating or editing data visualizations, which include figures, tables, illustrations, and interactive web tools
Demonstrated knowledge of educational or labor economics research
Has background in highly collaborative environments and values the importance of multiple perspectives
Demonstrated competency in MS Word, MS Excel, Tableau, or similar software.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$66,783.00 - $126,720.23Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
