Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Casualty Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter to join our team. In this strategic role, you will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of casualty and workers' compensation reinsurance treaties, ensuring profitability and long-term growth. This position requires deep expertise in casualty insurance markets, risk assessment, and financial analysis.


As a senior underwriter, you will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders, including cedents, brokers, and actuarial teams, to develop tailored reinsurance solutions. You will also play a critical role in market development, risk management, and portfolio optimization.


Your Impact:


Underwriting & Risk Assessment

  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal casualty reinsurance treaties, assessing risk exposures, pricing, and terms.
  • Develop and implement underwriting standards and best practices to maintain portfolio profitability.
  • Monitor treaty performance, conducting regular reviews and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with actuarial and underwriting teams to refine pricing models and improve loss estimates.

Portfolio & Market Development

  • Manage a portfolio of casualty reinsurance treaties, ensuring alignment with profitability and growth objectives.
  • Conduct in-depth portfolio analysis to identify opportunities for optimization and diversification.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cedents and brokers, fostering long-term business partnerships.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, contributing to the company’s expansion strategy.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, networking events, and client meetings.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Assess and manage treaty-related risks, developing and executing effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and underwriting best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive underwriting documentation.


Successful Candidates Will Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, actuarial science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience (15+ years preferred) in casualty and workers’ compensation reinsurance underwriting.
  • In-depth knowledge of casualty insurance products and underwriting principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and make data-driven decisions.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.


The total compensation for a position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. The expected annual pay range for this position is between $150,000 to $275,000 plus discretionary bonus. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including geographical location, education, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
