Job description

Job Summary

The Product Designer delivers value in the form of design decisions. As a Product Designer, you will develop a deep understanding of the users in order to define solutions that are desirable, useful and usable. Your role will include performing research to validate critical user and solution assumptions before adding development work to the backlog, understanding the needs of the customers and the users, determining expected business impact of the system, managing stakeholder expectations, and collaborating closely with the product development team to ensure these requirements/goals are met. This position requires a goal-oriented self-starter who can work independently in a rapidly changing, fast paced (1 week delivery cycle) development environment.

As with any position, additional expectations exist. Some of these include, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook, communicating regularly with assigned supervisor(s), staying focused on the assigned tasks, and completing other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct user interviews
  • Define personas 
  • Perform and oversee usability testing
  • Provide insight and guidance for UI/UX Visual design
  • Work with Product Owner(s) to prioritize Features
  • Work with Product Owner(s) to establish an Outcome Oriented Product Roadmap, Manage the Backlog, Produce Portfolio, Program and Team Metrics in Application Lifecycle Management tool 
  • Collaborate with Engineers on Test-driven development, Pair programming, Evolutionary design, Collective code ownership, Retros, Short iterations, CI/CD
  • Work with Product Owner(s) to define and articulate product vision, strategy and roadmap
  • Define business model
  • Define Minimum Viable Product 
  • Identify and test assumptions 
  • Support CI/CD pipeline ensuring rapid ongoing releases of updated software
  • Coordinate with Cybersecurity team to resolve items on POA&M

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, business, or equivalent field.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in Information Technology development as a software developer or system/business analyst.
  • Three (3) years of experience, can be part of experience above, leading software development efforts 
  • Documented experience working in a DOD and Agile Development environment that combines Lean, Scrum and XP frameworks
  • Basic Understanding of cloud architecture
  • Ability to correlate requirements to specific tasking
  • Familiarity with JIRA, User Stories and updating Jira tickets to with appropriate levels of content
  • Experience with documentation using Atlassian Confluence
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD SECRET Clearance (Clearance not required to start)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Individual shall have notable experience in U.S. Navy programs or operations
  • Ten (10) or more of years of experience in the area of information technology, software engineering and application software development for DoD Systems or other federal agency Information Technology (IT) Systems to include: Technology Analysis and Assessment, Requirements Definition, Design Definition, Development of Systems Specification, Systems Analysis, Systems Architecture, Software Development, Verification and Validation, Writing technical documentation, procedures and/or guidelines, Training, Systems/Equipment Integration, Production Release or Installation
