The opportunity
Responsibilities
We currently have an opportunity for an IT Principal Initiative Leader to join our Corporate IT team based in our Denver, CO; Canton, MA; Boston, MA office or remote within the United States. The Principal Initiative Leader oversees and drives complex, cross-team initiatives leveraging Agile methodologies to ensure successful delivery of IT programs. A Principal Initiative Leader is responsible for coordinating work that spans multiple Agile teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, managing cross-team dependencies, and providing leadership without undermining Agile principles while driving change. Uses agile methodologies to establish and enforce governance frameworks, ensuring activities across multiple initiatives adhere to compliance requirements and align with overarching initiative objectives. Some of the IT Principal Initiative Leader responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Works with leadership to understand the vision and translate it into actionable initiatives that Agile teams can execute, ensuring multiple programs to which assigned are aligned to high level goals and GSL strategic priorities.
- Coordinate efforts and manages dependencies across several Scrum teams or large complex programs, ensuring alignment and collaboration on priorities, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Helps define the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with the organization’s architecture, technology stack, and goals.
- Assesses the technical feasibility of various solutions, providing input on how they fit within long-term technical strategies.
- Coordinates technical handoffs between teams, especially if the initiative involves multiple systems or platforms that must work together.
- Sets and enforces technical standards and best practices (e.g., coding standards, security practices) across the teams involved in the initiative, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, security standards, and internal guidelines.
- Implements governance model to oversee cross-functional efforts, using appropriate tools to ensure roles and responsibilities are clear.
- Acts as a point of escalation for technical blockers that need cross-team coordination or leadership intervention and helps remove organizational or cross-team impediments that may hinder progress.
- Helps drive organizational change, ensuring teams and stakeholders are aligned with Agile principles, especially when the initiative involves transforming existing business processes or technical systems.
- Helps prioritize features, epics, or deliverables that span multiple teams, ensuring the work is aligned with business goals.
- Regularly communicates initiative progress to stakeholders and leadership, ensuring transparency and timely feedback, fostering open communication to enhance collaboration and success of multiple projects and key programs.
- Ensures that key technical decisions, integrations, and configurations are documented to support transparency, maintainability, and future scaling.
- Promotes knowledge sharing and technical training across teams, helping maintain alignment and consistency.
The expertise you bring
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) – preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or 8 years equivalent work experience in technology.
- Technical understanding of large and complex system implementation programs and demonstrated expertise in delivering complex projects.
- Experience with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Agile, Change Management, Thought leadership
- Experience partnering closely with architects and technology leads.
- 8+ years related job experience.
- Experience working in insurance industry preferred.
Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience, and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires, but your recruiter will share more specific compensation information with you during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $128,000 – $169,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Hoboken, NJ; and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $149,000 -$174,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:
